Job summary

Universitat de Barcelona seeks a Research Technician to support an ERC-funded project aimed at uncovering brain mediators of risk factors for chronic postsurgical pain in adolescence, using precision fMRI. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience or biomedical engineering, plus experience in MRI data collection and data management.

The contract is temporary for 12 months with renewal until 2030, 35 hours per week, starting 2 Nov 2026.

Offer Description

Our goal is to uncover the brain mediators of the relationship between major psychosocial and physical risk factors and future onset of chronic postsurgical pain in adolescence; develop and initially validate a “multi-ingredient” brain function model (classifier) that can be used in new patients to accurately predict who will (/will not) develop chronic postsurgical pain; and identify, in a subset of preselected adolescent patients, neuroplastic changes tracking pain along subacute post - surgical phases, early/later phases of chronic pain and after multimodal treatment, using precision fMRI single - case approach with repeated fMRI assessments. We are looking for an enthusiastic and brilliant research technician to support this international, ERC-funded project.

Gross salary per year: 31,024.10€

Studies: Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biomedical engineering or a related field. An MSc in these fields and experience as a clinical research assistant with chronic pain and depression patients will be positively valued.

Specific Requirements

• Background in neuroscience and/or biomedical engineering.
• Previous experience in fMRI and MRI data collection, quality control and preparation of databases for analysis.
• Previous experience in management of large data bases.
• Previous experience in recruitment of chronic pain and depression patients for MRI assessment.
• Previous experience in participant screening and informed consent procedures.
• Experience in first- and second-level fMRI data analysis, and in analysis with fMRI-derived brain signatures, will be positively valued.

Eligibility criteria

The selection is made through the evaluation of the curriculum, with an overall score of zero (0) to ten (10) points. The minimum score is five (5) points. The evaluation criteria are the following:

- Suitability of the candidate to the main function to be carried out

- Curricular experience

- Professional knowledge and skills

- Communication skills and motivation.

The tribunal, in its constitutive session, assesses the CVs of the candidates presented.

Selection process

A resolution of adjudication is issued to the person who, having passed the selection procedure, obtains the highest score and publishes the prioritised list of applicants who have passed the selection process, indicating the scores obtained, for subsequent recruitment, if necessary.

Additional comments

Duration of the contract of employment: 12 months, renewable until the end of the project (31/12/2030).
