Job summary

yGen Innovations is building software engineers to support an active client engagement centered on an internal AI agent platform. If you have a solid grasp of Spring Boot, Java, and REST APIs, and you know how to work with AI coding assistants without trusting them blindly, we want to hear from you.

Remote work from the Philippines; duties include extending a live Java/React codebase, adding endpoints, and ensuring reliable migrations with Flyway and PostgreSQL.

Qualifications

• Solid grounding in Spring Boot: what a controller, a service, and a repository each do, and how a request travels from an HTTP endpoint to the database and back.
• Comfortable reading and writing modern Java
• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs, including request and response shapes and status codes
• Working SQL skills: reading a schema, writing queries, and understanding what a foreign key and an index are for
• Git fundamentals: branches, pull requests, reading a diff, and commit messages that explain why

Responsibilities

• Extending a live Java and React codebase that other teams depend on daily
• Adding endpoints and screens to an internal AI agent platform built on a flow engine of nodes and conditional branches
• Fixing defects reported by the internal teams using the platform
• Writing and reviewing versioned database migrations with Flyway and PostgreSQL
• Making platform behavior visible to the engineers who operate it, including inputs, outputs, model, duration, and cost at each step
• Using AI coding assistants to build changes, then verifying every output by running it and checking it against the actual code rather than trusting a confident summary
• Writing and maintaining agent skills: packaged, reusable instructions that give an AI agent a reliable way to perform a specific task
• Writing spec documents covering requirements, design, and acceptance criteria that another engineer or an agent can build from

Work Setup: Remote (Philippines-based)
Experience Level: Mid-level (3 to 5 years), with strong Spring Boot fundamentals over years of Java depth
Timezone Coverage: Standard 8-hour shift, positioned as an early AM shift (approx. 5 to 6 AM Manila start) or a late shift (ending approx. 1 to 2 AM Manila) to overlap with Seattle (PST)

What the Work Looks Like

Depending on the engagement, Software Engineers typically work on:

• Extending a live Java and React codebase that other teams depend on daily

• Adding endpoints and screens to an internal AI agent platform built on a flow engine of nodes and conditional branches

• Fixing defects reported by the internal teams using the platform

• Writing and reviewing versioned database migrations with Flyway and PostgreSQL

• Making platform behavior visible to the engineers who operate it, including inputs, outputs, model, duration, and cost at each step

What We Look For

Must Have

• Solid grounding in Spring Boot: what a controller, a service, and a repository each do, and how a request travels from an HTTP endpoint to the database and back

Strong Advantage

• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines: what runs at each stage, how to diagnose a failing build, and how a change travels from a merged pull request to production

• Experience writing spec documents that an engineer or an agent can build from without further explanation

• A track record of validating AI-generated code against a spec, running it and testing edge cases rather than accepting a confident summary

• Experience writing or maintaining agent skills for AI coding assistants

• Experience running work in parallel across agent harnesses such as Claude, Codex, or Kiro

Nice to Have

• React and TypeScript experience

• Docker and AWS experience (ECS, RDS, S3)

• Exposure to LLM APIs, retrieval-augmented generation, or prompt design
