Job summary

Outstaffer.AI is seeking a senior, hands-on Shopify developer to build and ship Shopify Plus work to a high standard. You will follow directions from the Shopify Tech Lead, ensure quality and timely delivery, and maintain internal communication with honest estimates and clear updates.

You won’t be client-facing; the role focuses on internal delivery, code quality, and collaboration with the Tech Lead, Solution Architect and Project Manager while maintaining daily Jira updates and overlap with

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on Shopify development in Shopify Plus environments.
• Deep Liquid and theme architecture skills with performance focus.
• Hands-on experience with Shopify Plus extensions including Checkout UI Extensions and Customer Account Extensions.
• Strong knowledge of Shopify Functions, Markets, and the Storefront and Admin APIs.
• Custom Shopify app development experience (public and private).
• Exposure to ERP, loyalty, fulfilment and POS integrations.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor.
• Excellent written and spoken English, comfortable with a distributed team and overlapping Australian hours.

Responsibilities

• Build Shopify storefront, theme, app and integration work to the agreed technical approach, following coding standards and client acceptance criteria.
• Produce accurate estimates (including testing, review and deployment) and identify gaps and dependencies before starting work.
• Protect agreed scope; flag scope creep rather than absorbing it.
• Participate in code reviews as author and reviewer.
• Support deployments, releases and go-lives, and resolve incidents and defects.
• Keep Jira updated as the system of record with daily time logging.
• Stay updated on Shopify platform changes and use AI-assisted tooling as part of the team's AI-first approach.

Our client is an established Australian ecommerce and digital consulting agency with more than two decades in the market, helping retailers and brand owners grow their online sales. They are an implementation partner for Shopify Plus and other leading enterprise commerce platforms, with a team of 90+ specialists across the Asia-Pacific region.

The role

We're looking for a senior, hands‑on Shopify developer who builds and ships Shopify Plus work to a high standard. This is a delivery role: you'll work to technical direction set by a Shopify Tech Lead and own the quality, accuracy and timeliness of what you build. You won't be client‑facing. Client communication, scoping and solution architecture sit with the Tech Lead, Solution Architect and Project Manager. What we need from you is excellent internal communication: honest estimates, clear written updates, early flags, and the confidence to challenge a task that doesn't make sense.

What you'll do

• Build Shopify storefront, theme, app and integration work to the agreed technical approach, the agency's coding standards and the client's acceptance criteria Deliver across BAU support, dedicated team retainers, mini projects and full implementations


• Produce accurate estimates (including testing, review and deployment) and interrogate tickets for gaps and hidden dependencies before you start


• Protect agreed scope: flag anything that grows beyond the estimate rather than absorbing it


• Take part in code review as both author and reviewer


• Support deployments, releases and go‑lives, and resolve assigned incidents and defects


• Keep Jira as the system of record, with time logged daily and tickets kept current


• Stay on top of Shopify platform changes and use AI‑assisted development tooling as part of the team's AI‑first approach

What you'll bring

• 5+ years of hands‑on Shopify development, with significant time on Shopify Plus and enterprise merchants


• Deep Liquid and theme architecture skills, with a performance‑conscious approach to storefronts


• Hands‑on experience with Shopify Plus extensions, including Checkout UI Extensions and Customer Account Extensions


• Strong working knowledge of Shopify Functions, Markets, and the Storefront and Admin APIs


• Custom Shopify app development experience (public and private)


• Exposure to third‑party integrations such as ERP, loyalty, fulfilment and POS


• Git workflows and CI/CD deployment pipelines in a Shopify context


• A track record of accurate estimates and delivering to defined scope in an agency or professional services environment


• Experience with AI‑assisted development tools such as Cursor


• Excellent written and spoken English, and comfort working in a distributed team with overlap with Australian Eastern hours

Nice to have:

• Hydrogen and React experience, particularly for middleware, API proxy layers or headless components.


• Work on Shopify Plus builds for well‑known Australian and international retail brands


• The most senior non‑client‑facing development role, with a clear path to Shopify Tech Lead


• Time to contribute to R&D, tooling and the team's AI‑first initiatives
