Job summary

ibex is seeking a Senior Tax Preparer to prepare and review moderately complex U.S. individual income tax returns under supervision. You will analyze source documents, handle multi-state and investment items, and coach junior preparers.

The role requires 4–7 years of U.S. tax-prep experience, strong English, and proficiency with tax software. You will ensure accuracy, escalate issues, and support tax organizers and extensions.

Qualifications

• 4–7 years of practical U.S. individual tax-preparation experience
• Strong experience preparing Form 1040 returns and related schedules
• Experience with at least one professional tax software platform
• Working knowledge of federal and state filing concepts, including multi-state situations
• Ability to analyze K-1s, brokerage statements, rental information, and self-employment records
• Ability to review workpapers and identify errors or missing support
• Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills and strong documentation habits
• Ability to communicate tax questions without overstating conclusions
• Strong written and spoken English and the ability to work with U.S.-based reviewers

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review individual federal and state income-tax returns
• Analyze prior-year returns, tax organizers, source documents, and client correspondence
• Handle returns involving self-employment, rental real estate, investments, retirement distributions, K-1s, itemized deductions, estimated taxes, and multi-state filing requirements
• Review Schedule C income and expenses, Schedule E activity, Schedule D and Form 8949 transactions, and common K-1 reporting
• Identify missing information, inconsistent data, possible duplicate deductions, and unusual year-over-year changes
• Prepare concise issue lists and escalation notes for the reviewing CPA or tax manager
• Review associate-level work for completeness, accuracy, and documentation quality
• Respond to review notes and manage assigned work through completion
• Support extensions, estimates, amended-return data gathering, and tax-organizer follow-up
• Maintain accurate workflow status across multiple returns and deadlines
• Follow firm procedures for taxpayer data, e-file authorization, workpaper retention, and quality control
