Job summary

Cloudstaff is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant NZ for a work-from-home role. You will handle NZ tax compliance, financial statements, and client advisory across SMEs, trusts and partnerships in a globally distributed virtual team.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of NZ taxation experience, strong English and communication skills, and proficiency with MYOB, Xero, Reckon, QuickBooks and Excel. A one-month salary sign-on bonus is included.

Qualifications

• Accounting degree or related degree with a major in accounting.
• CA/CPA completed or in progress.
• 5+ years accounting & taxation experience in New Zealand.
• Solid knowledge of NZ tax rules incl GST, FBT & Companies Act.
• Strong commercial acumen with solid accounting skills.
• Proficient English writing and verbal skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare tax returns, activity statements and NZ tax compliance.
• Prepare work papers and reconcile to financial statements.
• Prepare financial statements for companies, partnerships, trusts and individuals.
• Assist clients with tax planning, GST and bookkeeping.
• Contribute to budgets, cashflows and management reporting.
• Maintain documentation and client files per compliance.

This position will enable you to work on a wide portfolio of clients including SME's, trusts, partnerships, and companies across a broad range of industry sectors within a virtual team or a permanent placement with an office location virtually.

Responsibilities include:

• Tax knowledge including preparation of tax returns, activity statements, latest New Zealand tax rules
• Preparation of work papers and reconciliation to financial statement stage
• Preparation of financial statements, income tax returns and other lodgements for companies, partnerships, trusts and a range of individual businesses to a complex level (including large groups, inter-entity reconciliations etc.)
• Assist clients with tax planning, GST, bookkeeping
• Business advisory projects such as budgets, cashflows, management reporting
• Ensure all documentation including work papers and client files are maintained in line with Findex Group compliance requirements

Qualifications and requirements:

• Accounting degree or a related degree with a major in accounting.
• Completed or working towards completion CA / CPA.
• At least 5 years of proven accounting & taxation experiences within New Zealand
• Thorough understanding of New Zealand and/or taxation legislation, including but not limited to GST, FBT, Companies Act
• Strong commercial acumen paired with sound technical accounting and analytical skills
• Ability to be able to identify issues and communicate effectively and efficiently
• Experience with MYOB, Xero, Reckon, QuickBooks, Excel
• Experience with Reckon APS program (desirable)
• Proficient English writing and verbal skills
• Excellent communication skills with strong relationship and stakeholder management
• Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritise your workload
