Job description

Senior Australian Tax Accountant (Public Practice Experience Required)

Senior Australian Tax Accountant
Australian Public Practice Experience Required

Location: Remote / Offshore (Philippines)
Employment Type: Full-time
Experience Level: Senior (4+ years in Australian public practice)

About the Role

An Australian accounting firm is looking for an experienced tax accountant to join its team offshore. Most of the firm’s clients are small, owner-operated businesses, and you will prepare their financials, activity statements, and tax returns from start to finish.

You will work as part of the firm’s day-to-day team, alongside in-office colleagues, with regular contact through Teams chat and quick calls. You will manage your own workload, follow the firm’s workflow, and be trusted to work independently from day one. The firm expects the same standard of output and communication as an accountant working in its office.

Key Responsibilities

Tax & Compliance

Prepare and lodge BAS and IAS

Prepare Australian income tax returns for companies, trusts, and partnerships, with individual returns as needed

Handle groups of related entities (for example a company, trust, partnership, and individuals) and complete their returns together

Prepare financial statements for small and medium-sized business clients

Prepare supporting workpapers, including CGT on property and share sales, FBT, and Division 7A where applicable

Reconcile tax figures to the accounting records and flag any issues, such as loans to shareholders or associates

Perform balance sheet, GST, and ATO account reconciliations

Identify queries early and raise them with the directors before they become delays

Day-to-Day Support

Manage your own task list using the firm’s workflow dashboard, prioritising by deadline and checking in when direction is needed

Assist with ad hoc tasks as they come up, such as tax planning workpapers and cash flow budgets

Keep job status, timesheets, and deadlines up to date

Store and retrieve client documents accurately and consistently

Communicate clearly and promptly with the Australian team, using Teams, email, and short calls

Quality & Process

Check your own work thoroughly before it goes for review

Follow the firm’s workflow and contribute ideas to improve it

Stay up to date with ATO changes and how they affect Xero

Maintain strict confidentiality and data security

What We’re Looking For
