Job Purpose

Assists the Senior ROV Pilot Technician or their delegate in all ROV operations by operating and maintaining ROV systems offshore, piloting an ROV successfully in a variety of environmental conditions, assigning tasks to peers in a consistent and clear manner and assuming the duties of the Senior ROV Pilot Technician in their absence. Operations include preventive maintenance, fault-finding activities on systems, and operational scope of work to ensure they remain within the bounds of current operational procedures. Works with limited supervision and guides junior team members. Requires thorough knowledge of ROV sub-systems. Directly influences system uptime and mission success rate, which are the primary measures of ROV service performance to the client. Executes planned maintenance, pre-dive and post-dive checks and fault rectification on ROV, TMS and LARS mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and fibre-optic systems. Applies IMCA R 004 and Fugro global ROV procedures to every launch, dive and recovery, and exercises Stop Work Authority whenever an unsafe condition is identified.

Job Description
ROV Piloting and Operations
  • Pilot the ROV safely and efficiently to and from the worksite using sonar, acoustic positioning and all available navigation aids.
  • Carry out pre-dive and post-dive checks, power-up and power-down sequences and thruster isolation in accordance with procedure.
  • Operate 5- and 7-function manipulators and deployed tooling to complete inspection, cleaning, cutting and intervention tasks.
  • Act as navigator/observer, providing accurate real-time audio commentary and sonar interpretation to the required client format.
  • Recognise and immediately report abnormal vehicle handling, LIM alarms or entanglement risk to the ROV Supervisor.
  • Assume the duties of the Senior ROV Pilot Technician in their absence where assessed competent to do so.
Maintenance, fault finding and system readiness
  • Execute planned maintenance on schedule across ROV, TMS, LARS, umbilical and surface control equipment.
  • Diagnose and rectify faults in electrical, electronic, hydraulic and fibre-optic sub-systems using approved test equipment and isolation procedures.
  • Perform tether and umbilical terminations, cable continuity and insulation testing, and connector cleaning and greasing.
  • Install, integrate, trim and test survey sensors and tooling packages; maintain calibration certificates and manuals.
  • Record all work in the technical log / equipment breakdown report and update the planned maintenance system.
Launch and recovery
  • Confirm lifting equipment is certified, in date and visually inspected before use; keep clear of moving loads and cables under tension.
  • Perform assigned launch and recovery duties (winch operator, deck, console) in accordance with the ROV launch and recovery procedure.
  • Support emergency and contingency recovery of the ROV, TMS or LARS as briefed.
Data, reporting and administration
  • Complete dive logs, video logs and technical logs to Fugro and client standards, coordinated with the video record.
  • Ensure recorded data complies with QA/QC procedures and the project work scope.
  • Identify and record spares used, re-order consumables and maintain accurate inventory entries.
  • Support mobilisation and demobilisation reporting, shipping manifests and load test records.
Team working and personal development
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with all team members; provide effective shift handovers.
  • Assign tasks to peers consistently and clearly, and guide ROV Pilot Technician 2 and Trainee personnel.
  • Maintain the IMCA ROV Personnel Logbook and personal competency record; actively pursue competency sign-off and progression towards Senior ROV Pilot Technician.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in Electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, or mechatronics engineering
  • 3+ years of experience with work-class ROV
  • Experience in offshore

Responsible for following all safety signs/procedures/ safe working practices Responsible for using appropriate PPE’s Responsible for participating in mock drills. Entitled to refuse any to undertake any activity considered unsafe. Responsible for filling up of hazard observation card, wherever a hazard has been noticed at site. Responsible for safe housekeeping of his workplace. To stop any operation that is deemed unsafe. To be able to operate fire extinguisher in case of fire. To report an incident as soon as possible to the immediate supervisor and HSE manager To complete HSE training as instructed to do so.
