Job summary

Ruby Labs is seeking a highly capable Database Engineer to own, scale, and evolve our data infrastructure in a high-volume payments environment. You will design schemas, optimize queries, and ensure data integrity across transactional and analytical workloads.

You will join a fully remote engineering team, collaborating with backend and product squads to deliver fast, reliable data services for CRM, analytics, and payments platforms.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on PostgreSQL in production.
• Experience managing large databases (hundreds of millions of rows).
• Solid understanding of indexing, query planners, and locking.
• Experience with AWS-based infrastructure, ideally AWS Aurora.
• Ability to investigate and resolve complex performance issues.

Responsibilities

• Own and operate AWS Aurora (PostgreSQL) in a high-load production environment.
• Design and evolve schemas for large transactional domains (payments, customers, subscriptions).
• Implement partitioning strategies and advanced indexing.
• Analyze and optimize slow queries and production metrics.
• Design high-performance search solutions for internal CRM data.
• Work with event/log data pipelines for analytics (Tinybird/ClickHouse).
• Plan and execute safe schema changes and migrations on large tables.
• Participate in incident analysis related to data performance or availability.
