Role Overview

We are seeking a part-time Python/Django Developer & Data Engineer with experience in DevOps and CI/CD pipelines to join our growing team. This role supports the maintenance and evolution of our data infrastructure, Django-based applications, and DevOps workflows during a critical transition period. You’ll work alongside a fractional Architect who will mentor and guide you to take ownership of the technical stack.

Responsibilities

Backend Development & Data Engineering

• Maintain and enhance Django-based applications.
• Develop and maintain data ingestion pipelines for healthcare datasets (e.g., claims, eligibility, prescriptions) using Python, Pandas, and SQLAlchemy.
• Manage and optimize PostgreSQL databases (hosted on Azure Database for PostgreSQL – Flexible Server).
• Handle and automate SFTP file transfer, parsing, validation, and transformation into structured formats.

Cloud & DevOps

• Oversee and maintain Azure cloud infrastructure, including:
  • Azure Virtual Machines (VMs)
  • Blob Storage
  • Database as a Service (DBaaS)
• Design and manage CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines, or Azure DevOps to automate deployment, testing, and infrastructure provisioning.
• Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting for pipeline failures and data ingestion issues.
• Ensure secure and scalable DevOps practices across staging and production environments.

Collaboration & Documentation

• Collaborate with business stakeholders and non-technical team members to troubleshoot issues.
• Create clear technical documentation to support knowledge transfer and onboarding.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of the development process.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in Python and Django development.
• Strong working knowledge of PostgreSQL or similar relational databases (MySQL, SQL Server).
• Experience with Pandas or other Python data transformation libraries.
• Familiarity with Azure cloud services, including VMs, Blob Storage, and managed DBs.
• Experience managing SFTP workflows for data ingestion.
• Solid understanding of DevOps practices, including:
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Deployment automation
  • CI/CD pipeline management

Preferred Skills

• Experience working with healthcare data formats (e.g., 837/835 claims, 270/271 eligibility, NCPDP RX).
• Familiarity with HIPAA and healthcare data privacy best practices.
• Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Azure Monitor).
• Exposure to frontend development (HTML, Bootstrap, JavaScript) is a plus.
• Knowledge of secure credential management (e.g., environment variables, Azure Key Vault).
