Job summary

SMEC is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer with a PE license to lead construction inspection on dam and hydropower projects. You will inspect hydraulic structures, coordinate with Resident Engineer, oversee QA/QC, and support testing and handover activities on site.

The role requires a minimum of eight years in construction inspection or site supervision, with exposure to reinforced concrete and QA/QC testing. Travel to project sites and collaboration with global teams are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer License/Registration required.
  • Construction Safety Training essential.
  • QA/QC Certification preferred.
  • Dam/Hydropower Training beneficial.
  • FIDIC Awareness Training advantageous.
  • Experience on dam, hydropower, or pumped storage projects preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years in construction inspection or site supervision.
  • Experience with hydraulic structures and water conveyance systems.
  • Experience with reinforced concrete construction and QA/QC testing.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily inspection of Lower Inlet/Outlet Structure construction activities.
  • Verify compliance with drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Inspect excavation, foundation preparation, concrete placement, reinforcement, and embedded items.
  • Witness material and field testing, and quality control activities.
  • Identify defects and deviations; report non-conformances.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with approved methods and procedures.
  • Participate in safety inspections; report unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain daily inspection reports, site diaries, and photos.
  • Coordinate with Resident Engineer, QA/QC, and contractors.
  • Review inspection and work acceptance requests.
  • Verify corrective actions from inspections and audits.
  • Attend site meetings; provide updates on quality, safety, and progress.
  • Support progress monitoring and reporting; assist during testing, commissioning, and handover.
  • Perform other inspection and supervision duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct daily inspection of Lower Inlet/Outlet Structure construction activities.

  • Witness material testing, field testing, and quality control activities.
  • Identify and report construction defects, non-conformances, and deviations from approved requirements.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with approved construction methods and procedures.
  • Participate in safety inspections and report unsafe conditions or practices.
  • Maintain daily inspection reports, site diaries, and photographic records.
  • Coordinate with Resident Engineer, QA/QC personnel, and contractor representatives on site matters.
  • Assist in reviewing requests for inspection and work acceptance.
  • Verify implementation of corrective actions arising from inspections and audits.
  • Attend site meetings and provide updates on construction quality, safety, and progress.
  • Support progress monitoring and reporting activities.
  • Assist during testing, commissioning, and handover of completed facilities.
  • Perform other inspection and supervision duties assigned by the Resident Engineer or Team Leader.
