Job summary

Rehmann is seeking a Tax Senior Associate / Associate - Form 990 to join our nonprofit tax team. You will support preparation of Form 990 series returns and related compliance workpapers for US nonprofit clients, bringing knowledge of exempt organizations and donor reporting.

This role suits detail-focused professionals with 2–5 years of US tax experience, proficiency in Excel, and strong written and verbal communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 2-5 years of experience in US tax preparation, preferably nonprofit or tax-exempt organization.
• Experience preparing or supporting Form 990 series returns is required or strongly preferred.
• Good understanding of US tax compliance and nonprofit reporting concepts.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with financial statements, donor information, and supporting schedules accurately.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with tax preparation software.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to follow firm processes, meet deadlines, and raise technical questions appropriately.

Responsibilities

• Prepare or assist in preparing Form 990 series returns, including Form 990, 990-EZ, 990-PF, and related schedules, depending on client needs.
• Gather, organize, and reconcile financial statements, donor records, grant activity, and other nonprofit tax reporting data.
• Prepare tax workpapers and supporting schedules related to exempt organization reporting and compliance.
• Review client-provided information for completeness, accuracy, and consistency with reporting requirements.
• Assist in identifying unrelated business income, public support considerations, compensation reporting, and other Form 990 disclosure items.
• Research nonprofit tax rules and Form 990 reporting requirements under supervision.
• Coordinate with senior team members to resolve open items and support review-ready deliverables.
• Maintain organized documentation and meet internal deadlines during tax season and filing extensions.
