Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Meteorological Technician to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia, collecting and analyzing weather data and ensuring mission readiness.

You will operate weather instruments, prepare routine reports, and collaborate with engineering and aviation teams in a remote overseas environment.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience in meteorology, atmospheric science, or weather observation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in meteorology preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.

  • Monitor severe weather conditions and provide timely alerts to operational personnel.
  • Maintain accurate logs, digital records, and equipment maintenance documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, aviation, and operational teams to ensure weather data accuracy and mission readiness.

Job description

Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Meteorological Technician to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia.

Job Responsibilities
  • Collect, record, and analyze meteorological data including temperature, humidity, wind speed, atmospheric pressure, and precipitation.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain weather monitoring instruments and automated observation systems.
  • Prepare and disseminate routine and special weather reports in accordance with Navy and Amentum standards.
  • Assist in forecasting support by compiling observational data and identifying weather patterns.
  • Monitor severe weather conditions and provide timely alerts to operational personnel.
  • Maintain accurate logs, digital records, and equipment maintenance documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, aviation, and operational teams to ensure weather data accuracy and mission readiness.
Required Qualifications
  • Employees must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
  • Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
  • Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
  • 1-3 years of experience in meteorology, atmospheric science, or weather observation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in meteorology preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.
  • Familiarity with meteorological instruments, automated weather systems, and data analysis tools.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Valid driver's license.

Working Environment

This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.

Physical Requirements

Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
