Job Description
A Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining machinery used in manufacturing processes or other industrial tasks. They ensure that machines run efficiently, produce high-quality products, and comply with safety and regulatory standards.
Machine Operation:
- Set up and operate machines according to specified instructions and production requirements.
- Monitor machines during operation to ensure they are functioning correctly and producing items within quality standards.
- Adjust machine settings, such as speed or temperature, to meet production needs.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Perform routine maintenance on machines, including cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting parts for wear and tear.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic machine issues or malfunctions during the production process.
- Report more complex machine problems to maintenance technicians or supervisors.
Quality Control:
- Inspect finished products for defects, measuring dimensions and checking for consistency with specifications.
- Make adjustments to the machine or materials to ensure the quality of the product meets company standards.
- Document quality control findings and follow up on any necessary corrections or rework.
Education:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
- Technical certifications or vocational training related to machine operation or manufacturing can be a plus.
Experience:
- Previous experience as a machine operator or in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Experience with specific machinery (e.g., CNC machines, lathes, presses, or packaging equipment) may be required depending on the role.
Skills:
- Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills to operate, adjust, and troubleshoot machines.
- Ability to read blueprints, technical diagrams, or manuals related to machine setups and production.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure the quality of products and accuracy of machine settings.
- Good organizational and time-management skills to monitor production and perform maintenance tasks.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods, as machine operation may involve physical activity.
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials (depending on the machine and environment).
- Comfort working in a noisy or industrial environment.
