Job summary

Vista Equity Partners is seeking a Lead Security Engineer to design and operate enterprise security controls across cloud, on-prem, and SaaS. This role balances hands-on engineering with technical leadership to strengthen identity, data protection, and threat detection.

You will partner with Infrastructure, Cloud, Application, and Compliance teams to reduce risk, implement automation, and drive compliance with SOC 2, ISO 27001, and NIST standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Security, or related discipline.
8–12 years of security engineering/infrastructure security experience.
5+ years securing AWS environments (hands-on).
Hands-on control implementation over policy-only work.
Strong cloud security architecture knowledge (IAM, encryption, logging).
Experience with SIEM, EDR, vulnerability scanners, CSPM tools.
Terraform / IaC experience.
Understanding of attack techniques and defenses.
Experience with SOC 2 / ISO 27001 compliance.
Strong incident response and root cause analysis skills.
Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

Design security architecture across AWS, on prem, and SaaS platforms.
Maintain IAM, SSO, MFA, RBAC, and least privilege controls.
Lead SIEM/EDR, vulnerability management, and cloud security tooling.
Develop and automate security controls using scripting and IaC.
Drive secure configuration standards for cloud workloads and enterprise systems.
Oversee vulnerability remediation and risk prioritization processes.
Lead security monitoring and incident response investigations.
Define logging, telemetry, and detection engineering standards.
Conduct threat modelling and architecture risk assessments.
Support SOC 2, ISO 27001, and NIST aligned control implementation.
Mentor security engineers and promote secure engineering practices.
Evaluate emerging security technologies and adoption.

Role Description

The Lead Security Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and operating enterprise security controls across cloud, infrastructure, and SaaS environments. This role serves as the technical anchor for security engineering, translating policy and risk requirements into enforceable, automated controls. The position balances hands on engineering with technical leadership. It drives control maturity across identity, endpoint, network, cloud, logging, and detection capabilities. The role ensures that security is embedded into architecture and operations, not layered on after the fact. The Lead Security Engineer partners with Infrastructure, Cloud, Application, and Compliance teams to reduce attack surface, improve detection and response, and strengthen regulatory alignment. The role requires strong technical depth, disciplined execution, and the ability to operate in a high accountability environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and implement security architecture across AWS, on premises, and SaaS platforms
Engineer and maintain identity and access management controls including SSO, MFA, RBAC, and least privilege models
Lead implementation and tuning of SIEM, EDR, vulnerability management, and cloud security tooling
Develop and automate security controls using scripting and Infrastructure as Code
Drive secure configuration standards for cloud workloads and enterprise systems
Oversee vulnerability remediation programs and risk prioritization processes
Lead security monitoring and support incident response investigations
Define logging, telemetry, and detection engineering standards
Conduct threat modelling and architecture risk assessments for new initiatives
Support SOC 2, ISO 27001, and NIST aligned control implementation

Evaluate emerging security technologies and recommend adoption where justified

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Security, or related discipline
8 to 12years of experience in security engineering or infrastructure security
Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience securing AWS environments
Role requires hands on control implementation rather than policy only expertise
Strong knowledge of cloudsecurity architecture including IAM, encryption, network segmentation, and logging
Experience with security tooling such as SIEM platforms, EDR solutions, vulnerability scanners, and CSPM tools
Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
Solid understanding of attack techniques and defensive controls
Experience supporting compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001
Strong incident response and root cause analysis experience
Strong communication skills and ability to influence cross functional stakeholders
