Job summary

Amentum seeks a Lead Recreation Services Specialist to oversee diverse recreational programs for a US Navy contract on Diego Garcia. You’ll lead lifeguard training, coordinate leagues across soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball and flag football, and ensure safe, engaging activities for participants.

Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in military or civilian recreational services.
  • Certified American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor.
  • Proficiency in officiating Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, and Flag Football.
  • Background in marketing and promotion of recreational programs or events.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to coordinate multiple programs.
  • Effective leadership and communication to lead teams and engage participants.
  • Must complete and maintain training, including CPR, First Aid, AED, and local emergency procedures, with annual recertification.
  • Must read, speak, and comprehend English to perform contract requirements.
  • Must possess a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
  • Ability to obtain country-specific visas and pass contract medical requirements.

Amentum is seeking a Lead Recreation Services Specialist to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Lead Recreation Services Specialist is responsible for overseeing recreational activities, programs, and facilities, ensuring high‑quality customer experience, and maintaining operational standards. This role involves leadership, program development, and recreational event coordination across a range of activities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and supervise recreational services, ensuring program quality and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Act as lead instructor for lifeguard training programs, leveraging certification as a Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor.
  • Manage and coordinate sports leagues and events, including officiating and organizing Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, and Flag Football games.
  • Oversee the proper use and maintenance of recreational facilities, equipment, and supplies to ensure operational readiness.
  • Officiate games, set up sports events, and ensure adherence to rules and regulations for Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, and Flag Football.
  • Support the planning and execution of recreational events, sports tournaments, and other recreational programing.
  • Develop and promote recreational activities to engage participants and encourage active involvement.
  • Ensure a positive customer experience by addressing participant inquiries, complaints, and concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Monitor program participation and feedback to identify areas for improvement and growth.
  • Support recreational marketing efforts to promote programs and events to the local community and participants.
  • Assist in the development of marketing materials to increase awareness and participation in recreational activities.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in military recreational services or equivalent civilian recreational services.
  • Certification as an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor.
  • Proficiency in officiating sports, including Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, and Flag Football.
  • Background in marketing and promotion of recreational programs or events.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively coordinate multiple programs and activities simultaneously.
  • Effective leadership and communication skills to lead teams and engage participants.
  • Must be able to successfully complete and maintain all required training and certifications, including Customer Service, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), and local emergency procedures training, with annual recertification as required.
  • Must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
  • Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
  • Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
  • Ability to obtain country‑specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the duration of deployment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi‑national workforce.
  • Valid country driver’s license.
  • Advanced experience in event planning, tournament management, or large‑scale recreational program development.
  • Additional certifications in sports officiating, CPR/AED, or other related recreational leadership roles.
  • Familiarity with military or government recreational services and their operational standards.

Working Environment

This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
