Responsibilities

  • Follow Principals' and Client Managers' instructions to complete work accurately and on time.
  • Prepare statutory accounts, working papers, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare income tax returns.
  • Prepare Business Activity Statements (BAS).
  • Manage budgeting, WIP, and billing processes.
  • Assist with client inquiries and communicate professionally with clients.

Qualified Accountant or actively working toward a professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand)

Job description

Summary:

This position will be held by a qualified Accountant with at least 2 years Australian professional experience in a Chartered Accounting firm. This is a semi-autonomous role assisting with all aspects of a client base, including attending to the daily accounting needs and requirements of clients, overseeing or attending to the preparation and completion of financial statements and income tax returns, and managing the lodgment program for a portfolio of clients.


The Intermediate Accountant will be responsible for WIP management and assisting with the billing process.


It is also expected they will make contributions and assume the responsibility of suggesting improvements and reporting deficiencies in performance to company Principals with the objective of continually improving the firm's work practices and efficiencies.


Key Responsibilities:

WORKFLOW MANAGEMENT


  • Follow instructions of Principals and Client Managersin completion of work allocated, accurately and to a satisfactory standard, which may include.

  • Preparation of statutory accounts, including all associated working papers and supporting documentation.

  • Preparation of income tax returns.

  • Preparation of Business Activity Statement.

  • Management accounting.

  • Assist with the daily accounting needs and requirements of clients

  • Responding to client enquiries.

  • Remaining up to date with accounting software programs and developments.

  • Planning, prioritizing and managing personal workflow.

  • Working to budget and ensuring completion of all work in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner.

  • Assisting with management of the tax lodgment program.


TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT


  • Undertake studies in the CA Program of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand or the Philippines equivalent with the objective of gaining admission as a member.

  • Maintain technical proficiencies and a commitment to continual professional development and technical excellence.

  • Attendance at regular internal technical meetings and making meaningful contributions.

  • Presentation of technical materials at internal technical meetings.

  • Attendance at external technical seminars as appropriate.

  • Maintaining an understanding of current technical issues and changes to legislation, professional standards, etc.


CLIENTS


  • Respect client confidentiality at all times, regardless of the relationship with the client.

  • When applicable, communicate with clients to obtain information or assist with enquiries in a professional, courteous and informative manner.

  • Identify opportunities that assist clients to improve their situations.


IT


  • Learn and remain up to date with accounting software as required.

  • Understanding and staying up to date with IT developments in all areas that affect the practice.

  • Assist clients with the implementation of accounting technology.

  • Recommending IT applications that improve practice efficiencies.


PRACTICE DEVELOPMENT


  • Developing an understanding of business drivers and ways of improving the practice.

  • Ongoing and constant review of quality controls, including suggested improvements to working papers, filing, correspond ence etc.

  • Take an interest in the management and operation of the practice.

  • Identify opportunities to contribute to the practice, including standard documents and working papers, better uses of technology etc.

  • Being aware of practice efficiencies and suggesting possible improvements.

  • Involvement in drafting client communications including technical flyers, circulars and checklists.

  • Promote the practice wherever possible and develop and follow opportunities for practice growth.


STAFF DEVELOPMENT


  • Supervision of subordinate staff. Assist with training and development of subordinate staff Bedford policies and procedures.

  • Cooperate with directions from Principals and Client Managers.

  • Contribute to overall staff morale and display a positive, cooperative attitude.


BILLING


  • Management of WIP for each job. Discussions with Client Managers about WIP over runs as soon as they become apparent.

  • Responsibility for timely billing on completion of all jobs.

  • Awareness of client debt situation.


GENERAL


  • Constantly act professionally.

  • Maintain a commitment to professional development.

  • Present well and be a good ambassador for the practice.

  • Communicate confidently, effectively and in an informative way.

  • Understand and apply firm systems and procedures.

  • Lodge timesheets on adaily basis.

  • Continually be a responsible user of email and internet.

  • Understand, stay up to date with and respect Bedford employment policies and procedures.


Qualifications:

  • Experience managing a portfolio of clients and handling day-to-day accounting requirements.
