Background
- The Technician is responsible for executing maintenance and preservation tasks efficiently and safely to ensure the reliability and longevity of equipment. This role involves performing a variety of maintenance and preservation activities, including but not limited to cleaning, housekeeping, blasting, spraying/painting, isolation and reinstatement, greasing application, and the preservation of topside items like flanges, bolts and valves.
- The technician is also responsible for ensuring that his supervisor is made aware of all activities according to procedure, especially when safety is an issue.
- The technician/operator will demonstrate exemplary safety awareness and technical competence in all aspects of maintenance and preservation work on and around the vessel.

- The Instrument Technician is authorized to maintain Instrument assets and systems safely.

Accountable For: Responsibilities & Standards
- Dismantle and reassemble instrumentation equipment: Identify potential sources of hazard prior to dismantling; use correct procedures and methods of dismantling; carry out the correct isolation and disconnection procedure; identify, check and prepare components; apply appropriate tests and test equipment to ensure reassembly is correct and effective.
- Monitor and maintain the condition of instrumentation equipment: Adjust instruments to meet operating specifications; adjust with minimum disruption to ongoing activities and minimize waste; monitor and record actions in work history or log.
- Diagnose faults in equipment: Respond promptly to problems per approved procedures; select appropriate tests and diagnostic procedures and apply them methodically; carry out visual, close, and detailed inspections of equipment; use inspection results to determine appropriate actions; record an accurate and full description in the appropriate document history.
- Monitor and maintain pollution control measures: Unplanned discharges to the environment are identified, halted where possible, and reported per policy; relevant PPE used to address unplanned discharges; equipment, waste, or other materials for disposal are dealt with per correct procedure; environmental protection and pollution control are enforced effectively with colleagues, subordinates, and subcontractors.
- Emergency response: Carry out emergency response role (See Station Bill); demonstrate competence in emergency response drills and exercises.

Pre-hire Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience and/or qualified to N/SVQ/HNC/HND in Instrument Engineering or local equivalent.
- 3 years’ experience desired with offshore experience preferred.
- Experience and knowledge of hydrocarbon processing systems and utilities.
- Good experience of Permit to Work, Instrument/Mechanical Isolation Standards and Risk Assessment.
- COMP ex E’X’ course preferred.
- Medically fit according to The Company GEMS Instruction Health Requirements to Work Offshore.
