Industrial Engineer Job Responsibilities
- Monitors operations with an eye toward improving productivity and efficiency.
- Designs efficient production processes and workflows.
- Ensures that processes are designed to ensure that products meet quality standards.
- Reduces waste and addresses production issues.
- Reviews production schedules, processes, and specifications.
- Evaluates data to implement technological improvements in production processes.
- Implements controls to monitor costs and minimize production issues.
- Identifies potential locations and determines facility design.
- Works with other departments to develop design and production standards.
- Prepares inventory analysis and procurement purchase orders to address production needs.
- Designs facility layout and personnel requirements in relation to production operations.
- Helps to develop instruction manuals for production personnel.
- Hires, trains, and oversees production personnel.
- Ensures that work processes are safe and addresses safety issues and concerns.
- Generates process documentation and reports.
- Works with technical writers to prepare client and customer proposals.
Industrial Engineer Skills and Qualifications
- Knowledge of production machinery, processes, and standards in the field or industry
- Understanding of lean manufacturing and supply-chain management
- Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Just In Time (JIT) strategizing
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Data analytics skills and experience
- Attention to detail
- Understanding of ergonomics
- Project management skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Organizational, planning, and documentation skills
- Adept at using presentation software and presenting complex information to non-technical management personnel and other stakeholders
- Ability to work on multiple projects in various stages simultaneously
- Past use of Agile/Scrum or similar collaborative tools a plus
- Experience using computer-aided design (CAD) platforms
- Experience using System Applications and Products (SAP) software.
Industrial Engineer Education, Experience, & Licensing Requirements
- BS in industrial engineering or related field such as manufacturing or mechanical engineering, required
- 2-3 years relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment
- Master’s degree in engineering a plus.
