Job summary

Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, is seeking a Heavy Truck Driver/Heavy Equipment Operator for a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. You will operate earth-moving equipment including graders, loaders, backhoes, excavators, rollers, water trucks, trenchers, and skidsteers, following safety and project procedures to minimize risk.

Responsibilities include inspections, maintenance, coordinating material movements with customers, daily safety checks, and documenting activities.

Qualifications

  • Employees must read, speak, and comprehend English to perform contract requirements.
  • Passport valid for at least one year at time of hiring.
  • Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State guidelines.
  • Ability to pass medical and deployment requirements.
  • Three years of experience operating earth-moving equipment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Equipment operator training and NCCER or verifiable training preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Operate earth-moving equipment (grader, loader, backhoe, excavator, roller, water truck, trenchers, skidsteer/tracksteer) safely and effectively.
  • Inspect, clean, and perform operator-level maintenance on equipment.
  • Interact with customers for material and equipment movements.
  • Conduct daily safety checks and follow contract and company procedures.
  • Ensure proper equipment use, maintenance, and storage.
  • Complete documentation, reporting, and limited office duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description:

Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Heavy Truck Driver to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating earth-moving equipment in a safe and effective manner.

Job Responsibilities

Operate earth moving equipment in a safe and effective manner to minimize risk of injury, property damage, or loss of life; equipment may include, but is not limited to: motor grader, frontend loader, backhoe, excavator, vibratory roller, water truck, ditch witch trencher, or bobcat skidsteer/tracksteer

Inspect, clean, and perform operator level maintenance on equipment in accordance with standards

Interact with the customer for movement of materials and equipment

Perform daily safety checks to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition

Follow related safety regulations, contract requirements, company policies, and operating procedures

Ensure equipment is properly utilized, maintained, and stored

Complete necessary documentation, reporting, and limited office duties

Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge of equipment safety, maintenance, and storage
Analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability understand equipment load charts and coordinate earth movement to standard of project
Additional knowledge/skills may be required by contract or assignment

Required Qualifications

  • Employees must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
  • Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
  • Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
  • Three (3) years’ of experience operating earth moving equipment
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Equipment operator training and certificate from National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) or verifiable military or civilian equipment operator training from construction field preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment.

Working Environment

This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.

Physical Requirements

Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
