Job Overview

The Forester will support the environmental and sustainability objectives of a major hydropower pumped storage project. This role focuses on forest management, biodiversity protection, and vegetation restoration to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and minimize ecological impact. The position involves close coordination with project engineers, environmental specialists, and regulatory agencies.

The Role
  • Conduct baseline forest and vegetation surveys within the project site, reservoir area, and surrounding watershed using geomapping and Geographic Information System (GIS) tools to assess species composition, tree density, and habitat conditions
  • Oversee vegetation clearance, tree cutting, or transplantation activities to ensure they follow approved permits, environmental standards, and safety protocols
  • Develop and implement reforestation and afforestation programs, including species selection, planting schedules, and post-planting maintenance to restore affected areas
  • Monitor biodiversity within and around the project site, identify potential impacts on flora and fauna, and recommend habitat preservation measures
  • Coordinate with engineering and construction teams to schedule vegetation-related activities, ensuring minimal disruption to sensitive areas and compliance with buffer zone requirements
  • Prepare and submit forestry-related documentation, such as geomapping-based tree inventory reports, forest land use permits, replanting compliance reports, and environmental monitoring updates to regulatory authorities
  • Engage with local communities, indigenous groups, and environmental stakeholders to promote sustainable forestry practices and community-based reforestation initiatives
  • Participate in environmental audits, inspections, and compliance checks, providing technical input on forestry, geomapping, and vegetation matters
  • Support erosion control, slope stabilization, and watershed protection measures to safeguard project infrastructure and maintain ecosystem health
The Individual
  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or related field
  • Licensed Forester (as required by local regulations)
  • 8–10 years of relevant experience, preferably in infrastructure or energy projects
  • Proficiency in geomapping and Geographic Information System for vegetation mapping, spatial analysis, and environmental monitoring
  • Knowledge of hydropower or large-scale construction projects is an advantage
  • Strong understanding of environmental laws, forest management, and biodiversity conservation
