Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Fire Inspector to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role ensures fire code compliance, conducts inspections, and promotes life-safety practices across facilities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Fire Inspector I and II certifications; Public Fire and Life Safety Educator I; Hazmat Awareness; certifications due within 12 months.
  • Minimum two years as a firefighter.
  • Minimum two years as a fire inspector with inspections, code application, and violation reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of fire safety regulations and NFPA standards.
  • Experience conducting building inspections and reviewing plans for compliance.
  • English reading/speaking proficiency to perform contract requirements.
  • Passport valid at least 1 year at hire and ability to obtain visas.
  • Ability to pass medical, security, and deployment requirements; obtain credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections to detect, control, and eliminate fire hazards across facilities and operations.
  • Evaluate compliance with NFPA standards and fire safety regulations.
  • Write detailed descriptions of observed violations and prepare corrective action recommendations.
  • Review building layouts and fire protection systems for compliance.
  • Provide fire and life safety education to employees and stakeholders.
  • Maintain records of inspections, violations, corrective actions, and compliance findings.
  • Attend the NFPA 101 Life Safety Course within the first two years of employment.
  • Support Fire Marshal and leadership in fire prevention programs and risk analysis.
  • Respond to emergencies as needed and act as SME in fire prevention and safety.

Job Description:

Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Fire Inspector to support a unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia.

Job Responsibilities

The Fire Inspector ensures compliance with fire regulations, codes, and safety standards through inspections and fire prevention activities. This critical role is responsible for identifying, managing, and mitigating fire hazards to promote the safety of personnel, facilities, and infrastructure.

  • Conducting inspections to detect, control, and eliminate fire hazards across specified facilities and operations.
  • Evaluating compliance with established fire safety regulations, codes, and guidelines, including the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
  • Writing detailed descriptions of observed violations and preparing corrective action recommendations for compliance with legal standards.
  • Reviewing building layouts, construction plans, and fire protection systems to ensure adherence to fire safety regulations.
  • Providing fire and life safety education and outreach to employees and stakeholders as a Public Fire and Life Safety Educator I, promoting fire prevention awareness.
  • Maintaining thorough records of inspections, violations, corrective actions, and compliance findings.
  • Attending and completing the NFPA 101 Life Safety Course within the first two years of employment.
  • Utilizing acquired technical knowledge and analytical skills to enhance fire prevention strategies and operational standards.
  • Providing assistance to the Fire Marshal and leadership team in fire prevention programs, risk analysis, and compliance initiatives.
  • Being responsive to emergency situations if necessary and acting as a subject matter expert in fire prevention and safety.
Required Qualification
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification as Fire Inspector I and II, Public Fire and Life Safety Educator I, and Hazmat Awareness. New hires must obtain all required certifications within 12 months of employment and may not perform duties independently until fully certified.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a firefighter.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a fire inspector, including- Conducting inspections for detection, control, and elimination of fire hazards. Applying fire regulations and codes. Writing descriptions of violations and making detailed recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Strong knowledge of fire safety regulations, codes, and NFPA standards.
  • Proven ability to conduct building inspections, review plans, and ensure compliance with fire safety standards.
  • Employees must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
  • Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
  • Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce.
  • Valid country driver’s license.
  • Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
  • Completion of advanced coursework in fire safety, fire risk assessment, and life safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Navy or Department of Defense fire safety regulations and compliance processes.
  • Proven record of effective teamwork and communication in a structured, mission-driven environment.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Working Environment

This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain.

Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.

Physical Requirements

Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
