Job summary

SYSTRA is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and optimization of Electrical and ELV systems for diverse infrastructure projects in the Philippines. The role requires applying load calculations, protective schemes, and coordination with architects and engineers.

You will oversee drafting work, ensure QA/QC, and support construction with technical guidance while maintaining compliance with local and international standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum five (5) years as a Electrical Design Engineer using design and calculation software.
• Proficient with ETAP, Dialux, and other electrical design software.
• Knowledge in AutoCAD & Revit is an advantage.
• Solid understanding of Electrical systems, ELV systems, and building services engineering principles.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and optimize Electrical Systems & ELV System for commercial, industrial, infrastructures, and railway projects.
• Perform design calculations: load, voltage drop, cables sizing, containment, lighting lux, short circuits, distribution, load flow, earthing, and related analyses.
• Prepare and annotate drawings; supervise drafters; conduct QA/QC reviews to maintain standards.
• Ensure documentation and QA/QC work are saved to project drives and SPI servers.
• Ensure compliance with Philippine National Standards, Philippine Electrical Code, NEC, IEEE, Fire Code, NFPA, and local/international standards.
• Coordinate with internal and external teams to integrate Electrical & ELV systems into designs.

Context

The position is responsible for the design, development, and execution of Electrical systems, specifically Power System (HV,MV,LV), Lighting, Small power, & ELV systems; entails full-cycle engineering from conceptual design and calculation to project coordination, specification preparation, construction support, and commissioning. The position will also provide Electrical support for sustainable railway and infrastructure efforts.

Missions/Main Duties

• Design, analyze, and optimize Electrical Systems & ELV System for commercial, industrial, infrastructures, and railway projects.
• Perform a variety of design and calculation activities to ensure that electrical systems are safe, efficient, and compliant with industry standards, from load assessments to system reliability analyses. Design & calculation includes but not limited to load calculations, voltage drop, cables sizing, containment sizing, lighting lux calculation, short circuits analyses, distribution system layout, load flow analysis, earthing & grounding calculation, and all other calculation to complete the system and as required of the project.
• Perform a variety of design and calculation for ELV System such as Fire Alarm System, BMS, Access control system, and all other ELV system as required of the Project.
• Prepare and annotate drawing mark-ups to serve as guide for drafters. Supervise and coordinate the work of drafters, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and efficiently. Conduct quality assurance and quality control review to maintain high standards in all drafted outputs.
• Ensure that the design process, QA/QC works, calculation, iterations, and test analytics are documented and saved in the SPI server/specific project drive.
• Ensure compliance with Philippine National Standards (PNS), Philippine Electrical Code, NEC, IEEE Standards, Fire Code of the Philippines, NFPA, and relevant local regulations and international standards.
• As necessary/required in the project:
  • perform site surveys, existing facility assessments, and feasibility studies for renovation, rehabilitation, and new projects.
  • review and recommend approval of vendor submittals, technical proposals, and test reports, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • provide construction/technical support, including RFIs, submittal reviews, design specifications documents, and operational manuals
• Initiate sharing of industry best practices to guide junior engineers and designers
• Collaborate and coordinate with internal & external project teams to ensure seamless integration of Electrical & ELV systems into overall design.
• Performs other tasks as assigned from time to time upon receiving clear instructions from the MEPF Manager / Team Lead / Senior Engineer as required by SPI Projects.

Profile/Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• PEE or Master’s degree is an advantage.
• Minimum five (5) years as a Electrical Design Engineer using design and calculation software
• Proficient with engineering design programs such as ETAP, DiAlux, & other related Electrical system software. Knowledge in AutoCad & Revit is an advantage.
• Solidly understands the principles of Electrical system, ELV Syste,, and building services engineering principles.
• Sound knowledge of design and engineering principles.
• Analytical, attentive to details, and promotes problem-resolution.
• Time management and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Able to keep abreast with technology and engineering design trends.
