Job summary

Umpisa Inc. in the Philippines is seeking a skilled Database Administrator to maintain enterprise-level database infrastructure, performance, and security.

The role requires collaboration with operations, applications teams, and vendors to ensure reliability and cost-effective upgrades while upholding strong documentation and governance practices. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IT/CE or related field.
• Experience as a Database Administrator or in database/infrastructure administration.
• Strong knowledge of database administration, maintenance, monitoring, backup, and recovery.
• Experience with enterprise-level database infrastructure and production environments.
• Knowledge of database performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization.
• Familiarity with database security, access controls, and privileged/super-user accounts.
• Experience in database backup, recovery, housekeeping, and preventive maintenance.
• Ability to monitor database health, performance, availability, and security per service levels.
• Experience coordinating with infrastructure/database vendors for product updates and support.
• Strong documentation skills for configurations and technical records.
• Good analytical and troubleshooting skills; strong communication with teams and stakeholders.
• Ability to research industry developments and propose improvements or cost-effective infrastructure solutions.

Responsibilities

• Installs and administers major, very-complex, enterprise-level infrastructure components and facilities. Maintains infrastructure up time, performance and security at agreed service levels
• Researches industry developments regarding assigned infrastructure components to learn and implement better practices and cost-effective replacements
• Provides technical support and consultancy services to operations, applications management, and risk management; advises on infrastructure considerations
• Communicates and coordinates with infrastructure vendors regarding product updates, fixes, and support requirements
• Monitors periodically the condition and performance of assigned infrastructure components and reports status to leads
• Performs regular housekeeping on assigned infrastructure components, e.g. backups, maintenance
• Documents the configuration of assigned infrastructure components and keeps documentation updated
• Implements policies on configuration management and maker-checker controls for ITCRF forms
• Handles and safeguards super-user IDs for assigned infrastructure components

Duties & Responsibilities

• Installs and administers major, very-complex, enterprise-level infrastructure components and facilities. Maintains infrastructure up time, performance and security at agreed service levels
• Researches industry developments regarding his assigned infrastructure components, to learn and implement better infrastructure administration practices, understand cost-effective alternatives, and to guard against unplanned obsolescence. When needed, recommends better and/or more cost-effective replacement infrastructure
• Provides technical support and consultancy services to personnel in operations, applications management, and risk management. Advises applications managers on infrastructure considerations so they can design applications optimally
• Communicates, and coordinates with infrastructure vendors regarding product updates, fixes, and support requirements
• Monitors periodically the condition and performance of his assigned infrastructure components, and regularly reports the status of such to his leads
• Performs regular housekeeping on his assigned infrastructure components, e.g. cleanup of unnecessary components, system-level backup, vendor preventive maintenance, etc
• Documents the configuration of his assigned infrastructure components, and keeps such documentation updated and secured
• Complies with policies on configuration management, e.g. maker-checker controls for ITCRF forms
• Complies with policies on the handling and safe-keeping of super-user IDs for his assigned infrastructure components

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field
• With relevant experience as a Database Administrator or in database/infrastructure administration
• Strong knowledge of database administration, maintenance, monitoring, backup, and recovery
• Experience working with enterprise-level database infrastructure and production environments
• Knowledge of database performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization
• Familiarity with database security, access controls, and management of privileged/super-user accounts
• Experience in database backup, recovery, housekeeping, and preventive maintenance activities
• Ability to monitor database health, performance, availability, and security in accordance with agreed service levels
• Experience coordinating with infrastructure/database vendors for product updates, fixes, technical support, and maintenance
• Strong documentation skills, particularly in maintaining database configurations and technical records
• Good analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to investigate and resolve technical issues
• Good communication and coordination skills when working with operations, application teams, risk management, vendors, and other stakeholders
• Ability to research industry developments and recommend improvements or cost-effective infrastructure solutions
• Knowledge of IT configuration management processes and controls is an advantage
