Job description

We are hiring an Experienced Customs Declarant who will handle end-to-end import documentation, lodgement, classification, and declaration filing.
This is a zero-error position that requires accuracy, speed, and mastery of customs processes.

Key Responsibilities (Complete Declarant Scope)

DOCUMENT HANDLING & PREPARATION

  • Review complete set of import documents (BL, HBL, MBL, CI, PL, COO, permits, packing list, certificates & supporting docs)

  • Validate accuracy of BL vs. documents and ensure correct manifest details

  • Confirm Draft BL with agent abroad and ensure timely forwarding of FINAL BL

  • Monitor arrival notices, last free day, demurrage/detention exposure

  • Ensure NO late manifestation through timely coordination with forwarders

TARIFF CLASSIFICATION & VALUATION

  • Determine correct HS Codes / AHTN Classification

  • Apply Customs valuation methods (transaction value, deductive, computed, etc.)

  • Evaluate dutiable vs. non-dutiable charges

  • Compute duties, taxes, excise (if applicable), penalties

LODGEMENT & DECLARATION FILING

  • Prepare and lodge Goods Declaration (IEIRD) through E2M

  • Encode data accurately:

    • General cargo details

    • Container information

    • Description of goods

    • Tariff classification

    • Customs value

    • Importer/consignee details

    • Charges and fees

  • Upload attachments via Document Upload Facility (DUF)

  • Ensure completeness before lodgement to avoid errors and delays

  • Handle corrections (PCA, amendments) when needed

PERMITS, CLEARANCES & COORDINATION

  • Secure and validate required permits

  • Coordinate with shipping lines, consolidators, brokers, port operators

  • Follow up with client, forwarder, and processors for missing requirements

ASSESSMENT & PAYMENT

  • Receive and verify Assessment Notice (DAS)

  • Validate Statement of Account (SOA) for duties & taxes

  • Inform accounting of correct payment amount

  • Coordinate with client for payment instructions

  • Submit proof of payment for final verification

  • Track BOC clearance and release status

MONITORING & REPORTING

  • Update monitoring sheets (arrival, lodgement, assessment, payment, release)

  • Maintain documents for audit (including BOC post-clearance audit readiness)

  • Track multiple shipments simultaneously

  • Provide progress updates to clients & operations team

Qualifications

  • ✔ At least 2 years solid experience as a Declarant in a customs brokerage

  • ✔ Mastery of:

    • Tariff classification (AHTN)

    • BOC E2M lodgement

    • CPRS, DUF, IEIRD

    • Manifest & BL validation

    • Duties & taxes computation

  • ✔ Strong understanding of industry requirements (FCL, LCL, bulk, project cargo)

  • Zero-error documentation mindset

  • ✔ Very high attention to detail

  • ✔ Ability to work under pressure and tight timelines

  • ✔ Strong coordination & communication skills

  • ✔ Knowledge in handling shipments with special permits (FDA, DA, etc.)

  • ✔ Familiarity with BOC operations
