Qualifications

• Engineering degree or relevant certification
• 10+ years in hotel/building services or related field, 5+ years as Chief/Assistant Chief Engineer in a 5-star hotel
• Strong engineering background with trade expertise, trade-qualified in Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing/Gas Fitting
• Adapt to a flexible schedule; available 24/7 for emergencies
• Specialized knowledge in HVAC, water treatment, hydraulics, chillers, electronics, lighting, elevators, fire safety, and related systems
• Skilled in maintaining all hotel building services (e.g., security, A/C, plumbing, electrical, kitchen, laundry, lifts, TV/sound systems)
• Familiar with government regulations and technical standards

Responsibilities

• Partner in leading facility operations: Direct functionality, safety, and compliance of buildings, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, life safety, and grounds
• Oversee facility maintenance: Inspect facilities and supervise electrical, mechanical, and architectural system work
• Support property improvement projects: Direct capital projects and rehabilitation, including budgeting and licensing
• Oversee work order fulfillment: Ensure maintenance and repairs are assigned, verified, and documented
• Ensure regulatory compliance: Liaise with government officials to maintain permits and safety standards
• Cultivate a high-performing team: Drive engagement, development, and recognition
• Communication & Collaboration: Foster professional communication across Engineering and other departments
• Customer Service Focus: Maintain guest privacy, comfort, and service quality
• Sustainability & Efficiency: Manage Lightstay platform and monitor asset efficiencies

Here’s what you’ll do during a typical day:

• Partner in leading facility operations: Assist in directing the functionality, safety, and compliance of buildings, mechanical systems, electrical systems, HVAC, life safety systems, and grounds in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations
• Oversee facility maintenance: Perform facility inspections and supervise construction, installation, maintenance, and repairs of electrical, mechanical, and architectural systems
• Support property improvement projects: Assist in directing capital projects and property rehabilitations – including scheduling, budgeting, contractor bidding, and licensing/permitting – while ensuring regulatory compliance
• Oversee work order fulfillment: Ensure routine maintenance and repairs are assigned, verified, and documented in the property maintenance management system
• Ensure regulatory compliance: Communicate with government officials to maintain permits, coordinate inspections, and uphold safety and code standards
• Cultivate a high-performing team: Drive engagement and retention through performance management, professional development, and recognition programs
• Communication & Collaboration: Ensure professional, efficient, and thorough communication between Engineering and all other hotel areas, fostering positive interactions at both individual and department levels.
• Customer Service Focus: Maintain a high customer service focus, respecting guest privacy and ensuring their comfort and confidentiality.
• Sustainability & Efficiency: Manage the Lightstay Corporate Responsibility platform, drive sustainability projects, and monitor asset efficiencies on the building automation system.
