Job summary

Amentum in Diego Garcia is seeking an experienced Mason/Concrete Technician to support U.S. Navy projects on a remote overseas site. You will repair, construct and finish concrete structures, ensuring high safety and quality standards across multiple tasks.

The role requires at least 3 years of masonry experience or relevant trade school training, along with strong safety, teamwork and communication skills. International travel and valid passport are required.

Qualifications

  • Three (3) years comparable experience as a mason or trade school training in concrete repair and new concrete construction.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
  • Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
  • Repair, maintain and alter buildings.
  • Mix mortar, lay bricks and/or concrete sidewalks.
  • Make and repair steps, install and repair tile floors, and perform carpentry work incidental to masonry work.
  • Smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, sidewalks, or curbs to specified textures.
  • Use hand tools or power tools, including floats, trowels, and screeds.
  • Spread concrete into inaccessible sections of forms, using rake or shovel.
  • Level concrete to specified depth and workable consistency; finishing concrete surfaces, using power trowel, wet and rub concrete with abrasive stone to impart finish; removing rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces; molding expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.
  • May specialize in finishing steps and stairways and may break up and repair old concrete surfaces, using pneumatic tools; or may produce colored or textured finishes by adding colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish.
  • Prepare and submit detailed reports on concrete projects for the Management
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.

Amentum is seeking aCement Masonto support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. This position will be responsible for construction support on small construction, remodeling and renovation projects, and will report to the Program Leadership or designee.

Required Qualifications
  • Three (3) years comparable experience as a mason or trade school training in concrete repair and new concrete construction.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes involved in supporting contract responsibilities at an overseas facility.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team.
  • Ability to be innovative and be an agent for change.
  • Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices and proper handling of equipment and materials.
  • Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
  • Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
  • Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • Employees must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certificate from a vocational program.
  • Previous out of home country experience and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions are a plus.
  • Experience working with Amentum.

Working Environment

This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.

Physical Requirements

Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
