Job Description
- Cashier is responsible for handling customer transactions and providing excellent customer service in a retail or service environment. Their primary duties include:
- Processing Transactions: Scanning items, entering prices, and totaling purchases using a cash register or point-of-sale (POS) system. Handling various payment methods such as cash, credit/debit cards, and checks.
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is usually required. Some employers may accept candidates with relevant experience even if they do not have formal education.
- Experience: Previous experience in customer service, retail, or cash handling is often preferred but not always necessary for entry-level positions.
- Basic Math Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic, including adding, subtracting, and giving change accurately during cash transactions.
- Customer Service Skills: Strong verbal communication skills and a friendly, professional demeanor to assist customers, answer questions, and resolve issues.
- Attention to Detail: Accuracy in scanning items, handling cash, processing payments, and ensuring transactions are recorded correctly.
