Overview
A cashier handles transactions at a retail or service establishment, greets customers, processes payments, and supports returns and issuing receipts to ensure a positive customer experience and efficient operation at the point of sale.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers and assist with their purchases.
- Scan and bag items in a fast and accurate manner.
- Process payments via cash, credit/debit cards, or mobile payments.
- Provide customer service and help maintain a smooth checkout experience.
- May assist with returns and exchanges as needed.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
- Experience: Previous experience as a cashier or in customer service is often preferred but not always necessary.
- Skills: Basic math and money-handling skills; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to operate a cash register and other POS systems; good organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to work efficiently under pressure; friendly and approachable demeanor; ability to work well in a team; dependable and trustworthy; Physical requirements: ability to stand for long periods and lift light items as needed.
