Overview
A cashier is responsible for handling transactions, managing cash or card payments, and providing excellent customer service in a retail or service environment. They ensure smooth and accurate processing of purchases while maintaining a positive experience for customers.
Responsibilities
- Operate the cash register or point-of-sale (POS) system to scan items, process payments, and issue receipts.
- Handle various forms of payment, including cash, credit/debit cards, checks, and mobile payments.
- Accurately provide change, if applicable, and verify payment amounts.
- Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner, offering assistance as needed.
- Answer customer inquiries regarding products, store policies, or services.
- Address and resolve customer concerns, complaints, or issues promptly and courteously.
- Ensure the cash register is stocked with sufficient change.
- Balance cash drawer at the start and end of shifts, ensuring accuracy.
- Report any discrepancies or issues with cash handling to the supervisor.
- Assist with bagging items and ensuring proper packaging.
- Help with stock replenishment or reorganization of items when necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the cashier station or checkout area.
Education & Qualifications
