Under the supervision of a cardiologist, the role coordinates and participates in a variety of duties involved in the operation of echocardiographic equipment to obtain and record two-dimensional and M-mode graphic representations of the heart utilizing high frequency sound waves to assist physicians in the diagnosis of cardiovascular malfunctions, malformations, and abnormalities.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of tasks related to the operation of echocardiographic equipment in obtaining and recording two-dimensional and M-mode graphic representations of the heart utilizing high-frequency sound waves to assist physicians in diagnosing cardiac or cardiovascular malfunctions, malformations, and abnormalities; efficiently communicate with the physician, patients, significant others, and family members in implementation of these services in the unit in accordance to established protocols and procedures.
- Work closely with cardiologists in performing technical aspects of examinations and report any concerns to the cardiologists or to the immediate superior.
- Prepare and orient patients before the needed procedure in accordance with the established safety protocols and procedures.
- Communicate and coordinate with cardiologists, unit personnel, and other members of the medical team in performing quality service in the unit.
- Coordinate with patients, significant others, and family members in providing information and education related to the procedure and safety protocols.
- Communicate and escalates to the cardiologist or the immediate superior all identified issues and concerns beyond one's capacity.
- Participate in the continuous quality improvement of service, safety procedures and activities.
- Provide patient care, including preparation of patients for the sonographic imaging and providing them with instruction during the echocardiograph so that the images turn out properly as required.
- Maintain hospital standards and protocols during sonographic examinations.
Qualifications
- A graduate of a bachelor’s degree in any 4-year course in allied medicine.
- A valid license from the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) as a Registered Nurse, Medical Technician, Radiologic Technologist, etc. is an advantage.
- 0–3 years of working experience in ancillary services, or with medical related specialization such as Medical Technician or Radiologic Technologist.
- Healthcare industry experience is a plus.
- BLS or Hands‑on CPR certification is an advantage.
- Demonstrated understanding of basic corporate office software, including Microsoft Office 365 applications.
- Effective communication skills. Proficiency in the Visayan dialect and/or Tagalog is required; ability to communicate well in English is an advantage.
