Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Marine Engineer to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role covers design, analysis, construction support, maintenance, and repair of marine vessels and systems to comply with standards and contractual requirements.

Responsibilities

Amentum is seeking aMarine Engineerto support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Marine Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, construction support, maintenance, and repair of marine vessels and systems. This position provides engineering expertise for structural, mechanical, and electrical systems while ensuring compliance with applicable standards, safety regulations, and contractual requirements.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research, testing, and evaluations to support the design, construction, and modification of marine vessels and equipment.
  • Develop engineering designs, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation for marine systems.
  • Prepare technical reports, design analyses, engineering studies, and system diagnostic documentation.
  • Present engineering concepts, layouts, and design recommendations to customers, management, and project stakeholders.
  • Utilize engineering design software to develop and review vessel and equipment designs.
  • Oversee engineering activities throughout vessel construction, modification, and repair projects.
  • Supervise structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering efforts to ensure compliance with project specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor project scheduled, budgets, and engineering milestones to ensure timely completion.
  • Perform quality control inspections and acceptance testing on marine vessels, systems, and equipment.
  • Provide suppose for preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Investigate equipment failures and perform root cause analyses.
  • Support troubleshooting of complex marine engineering systems.
  • Promote improvement initiatives and engineering best practices.
  • Support audits, inspections, and customer technical reviews.
  • Maintain engineering documentation in accordance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Work as part of a team to address service orders and meet contractual requirements for grounds management tasks.
  • Assist with seasonal or special projects as assigned by the Grounds Crew Leader or supervisor.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in marine engineering or a related field.
  • Experience using engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Rhino 3D, SOLIDWORKS, or similar applications.
  • Working knowledge of marine automation systems, including HMI and PLC control systems.
  • Strong understanding of marine structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering principles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and engineering documentation.
  • Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
  • Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
  • Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and comprehend English.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience working in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce
  • A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle. Valid country driver’s license. and passport.
  • U.S. Coast Guard Engineer License.
  • Professional Engineer license or certification.
  • Experience with integrated mechanical, electrical, automation, and software engineering processes.
  • Familiarity with Hull, Mechanical & Electrical systems.
  • Experience supporting naval vessel construction, modernization, or repair programs.
  • Strong customer service, leadership, and project management skills.

Working Environment

This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.

Physical Requirements

Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
