JOB DESCRIPTION: AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC) TECHNICIAN

Job Summary

The Air Conditioning Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing various cooling, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. This professional ensures that HVAC systems operate at peak efficiency, comply with environmental and safety regulations, and provide optimal indoor air quality. The role requires advanced troubleshooting skills to isolate mechanical and electrical faults, handle refrigerants safely, and minimize energy waste.

Duties and Responsibilities

Installation & System Setups

• Equipment Commissioning: Install split-type, window-type, centralized, and package-type air conditioning units according to manufacturer specifications and blueprints.
• Component Placement: Mount compressors, condenser units, evaporators, and air handlers securely; install accurate structural supports and brackets.
• Piping & Ductwork: Layout, cut, bend, and connect copper refrigerant lines; insulate piping and install ductwork systems to ensure leak-free operations.
• Electrical Wiring: Wire cooling systems safely to power sources, control panels, thermostats, and circuit breakers in compliance with electrical codes.

Diagnostics, Troubleshooting & Repair

• System Fault Diagnosis: Use manifold gauges, multimeters, and leak detectors to diagnose electrical faults, airflow restrictions, compressor failures, and refrigerant leaks.
• Component Replacement: Repair or replace defective parts such as motors, fan blades, relays, capacitors, thermostats, expansion valves, and compressors.
• Refrigerant Management: Perform system evacuations, pulling vacuums, and charging refrigerants (e.g., R-22, R-410A, R-32) safely while preventing environmental contamination.

Preventive Maintenance & Safety Operations

• Routine Servicing: Conduct regular chemical washing, coil cleaning (evaporator and condenser), filter replacements, and drain line flushing to maintain efficiency.
• Performance Testing: Check system operating pressures, temperatures, current draws, and airflow metrics to ensure units run under optimal parameters.
• Safety & LOTO Compliance: Adhere strictly to workplace safety standards, including working at heights, handling hazardous gases, and executing Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) protocols.

Coordination & Documentation

• Client & Team Liaison: Coordinate with facilities managers, building engineers, or residential clients to explain system issues, repair options, and structural requirements.
• Service Logging: Meticulously update maintenance logs, refrigerant tracking sheets, job orders, and safety checklists to maintain operational compliance.

Job Qualifications & Requirements

• Certification: Must hold a valid technical certification (e.g., TESDA NC II in RAC Servicing / HVAC or equivalent global certification).
• Experience: Typically 2–5+ years of practical experience in residential, commercial, or industrial HVAC installations and servicing.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in reading electrical schematics, blueprint layouts, and using specialized HVAC tools (vacuum pumps, recovery machines, brazing torches, multimeters).
• Physical Fitness: Physically capable of working in tight spaces (ceilings, crawl spaces), climbing ladders/scaffolding, lifting heavy equipment, and working outdoors.
