The Role

As Principal Sustainability Engineer (ESD) at DMA Engineers, you’ll take a leadership role in delivering and expanding our sustainability services. This position is ideal for a self‑starter who is technically strong, commercially aware, and motivated to grow their own team and service offering within a respected consultancy.

You’ll lead sustainability outcomes across a range of projects while working closely with our building services and multi‑disciplinary teams. Beyond project delivery, you’ll play a key role in shaping DMA’s sustainability strategy, mentoring staff, and driving innovation, best practice, and market growth.

You’ll be trusted with autonomy, encouraged to think strategically, and supported to turn ideas into action.

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelors degree in engineering, Architecture, Sustainable Design, or a related discipline
• 5–10 years’ experience in ESD consulting, with at least 4 years in Australia
• RPEQ or willingness to obtain
• Strong technical expertise in sustainable design, building physics, and environmental performance
• Experience delivering Green Star, WELL, NABERS, NatHERS, Climate Active and NCC Section J compliance
• Proficiency in life‑cycle assessment, energy, thermal, daylight, and carbon modelling
• Experience with sustainability frameworks (e.g. ISC, ESG, GRI) and Australian carbon reporting (e.g. NGER)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including high‑quality report writing
• Proven leadership capability with a desire to mentor and grow others
• A proactive mindset with experience (or strong interest) in business development and service growth
• Ability to build strong relationships with clients, industry bodies, councils, and accreditation authorities
