FullStack is seeking an experienced Principal SQL Database Administrator to join our talent network and work with U.S. clients on flexible, project-based development work.

You will integrate directly into client teams, collaborating with designers and engineers on a daily basis to maintain and optimize large SQL Server environments. We require 8+ years of DBA experience, advanced English, and a four-year degree.

• 8+ years of professional database administration experience.
• Advanced English is required.
• Demonstrated experience administering and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server at significant scale.
• Deep expertise in SQL Server administration within Windows-hosted environments.
• Strong experience with SQL Server performance tuning, troubleshooting, and optimization.
• Advanced knowledge of SQL Server indexing strategies and index optimization.
• Strong experience analyzing execution plans, query performance, waits, blocking, locking, and other SQL Server performance indicators.
• Proven ability to identify and resolve database performance bottlenecks proactively.
• Strong understanding of SQL Server maintenance and ongoing database health management.
• Demonstrated ability to establish database administration standards, procedures, and best practices.
• Proven experience troubleshooting complex production database issues and determining root causes.
• Consultative mindset with the confidence to challenge ineffective approaches and recommend better technical solutions.
• Ability to operate at scale, prioritizing issues and improvements across a large number of databases.

• You will integrate directly into our client's team and work alongside their existing designers and engineers on a daily basis.

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of professional Database Administration experience.
• Advanced English is required.
• Successful completion of a four-year college degree is required.
• Demonstrated experience administering and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server at significant scale, ideally across 1,000+ databases or an equivalent enterprise environment.
• Deep expertise in SQL Server administration within Windows-hosted environments.
• Strong experience with SQL Server performance tuning, troubleshooting, and optimization.
• Advanced knowledge of SQL Server indexing strategies and index optimization.
• Strong experience analyzing execution plans, query performance, waits, blocking, locking, and other SQL Server performance indicators.
• Proven ability to identify and resolve database performance bottlenecks proactively.
• Strong understanding of SQL Server maintenance and ongoing database health management.
• Demonstrated ability to establish database administration standards, procedures, and best practices in environments where formal DBA processes may not yet exist.
• Proven experience troubleshooting complex production database issues and determining root causes.
• Consultative mindset with the confidence to challenge ineffective approaches and recommend better technical solutions.
• Ability to operate at scale, prioritizing issues and improvements across a large number of databases without losing attention to operational detail.
• Strong ownership mentality, with the ability to independently manage the health and performance of a large database environment.
• Availability to work with regular overlap during Canadian business hours, aligned with either Vancouver/Pacific Time or Toronto/Eastern Time.
• Ability to work through new and difficult issues and contribute to libraries as needed.
• Ability to create and maintain continuous integration and delivery of applications.
• Forensic attention to detail.
• A positive mindset and a can-do attitude.
• Experience working on Agile / Scrum teams.
• Meaningful experience working on large, complex systems.
