Job summary

Daely in Vienna is seeking an embedded systems engineer to own the firmware running on our Android-based touchscreen devices. You will manage the process with the manufacturer and ODMs, test and evaluate new hardware samples, and drive end-to-end firmware sign-off and updates.

You will ensure security, coordinate across time zones, and help shape next-generation hardware with new chipsets and on-device AI accelerators. Remote-first role with optional Vienna office.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Manage supplier/ODM processes from samples to firmware sign-off.

Your chance.

This is your chance to take real ownership of the hardware side within a small, cracked team - with far more impact than you'd have in a huge org. You'll own the firmware our devices run on, run the process with our manufacturer and suppliers and help shape the next generation of Dæly hardware.

What you'll do.

• Manage the process with suppliers and ODMs, from samples to firmware sign-off
• Source, test and compare new hardware samples (tablets, chips) and drive the evaluation end to end
• Own firmware testing and rollouts for our Android-based touchscreen device, including our own firmware updates
• Keep the device secure and up to date with ongoing security and Android version updates
• Work closely with our hardware manufacturer to make the firmware fit the hardware (chipset, peripherals, sensors)
• Drive new projects: benchmark chip options, compare samples, ...
• Lay the groundwork for upcoming hardware generations (new chipsets, NPU/accelerators for on-device AI)

What we are looking for.

• An embedded systems background (Linux, Android/AOSP) - you know how firmware for a real device gets built, packaged and updated
• Solid understanding of AOSP and embedded Android
• Hands-on experience with firmware testing, OTA updates and debugging in the field (ADB, logcat, bug reports)
• Experience working with hardware manufacturers or suppliers, ideally with a move towards sourcing and supply chain topics
• Clear communication with partners across time zones

Nice to have.

• Experience with Rockchip or comparable embedded Android chipsets
• Basic understanding of on-device ML inference constraints (memory, compute budget)
• German Speaking, based in- or close to Vienna
