Job Title: Welding Inspector – Pipeline (Oil & Gas)

Location: Oman

Experience: Minimum 8+ Years in welding inspection, with proven experience in pipeline projects within the oil & gas industry.

Educational Qualification: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory). Any GCC Operator Approval (mandatory).

Certifications: CSWIP 3.1 / 3.2 Certified, ASNT Level II in RT, UT, MT, PT

Job Summary

The Welding Inspector (Pipeline) is responsible for ensuring that all welding and fabrication activities comply with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications. The role involves the inspection and verification of welding quality on pipeline projects, documentation review, and coordination with QA/QC teams to maintain compliance with client and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspection and monitoring of all welding activities on pipeline construction sites.
  • Review and interpret WPS (Welding Procedure Specification), PQR (Procedure Qualification Record), and WQT (Welder Qualification Test) documents.
  • Verify that all welders are qualified and approved as per project and client standards.
  • Inspect weld joints visually and through NDT methods (RT, UT, MT, PT).
  • Ensure compliance with international standards such as ASME, API 1104, and project specifications.
  • Monitor pre-weld, in-process, and post-weld activities including fit-up, alignment, and dimensional checks.
  • Review NDT reports and welding documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed inspection reports, welding records, and QA/QC documentation.
  • Coordinate with construction, engineering, and QA/QC departments to address welding-related issues.
  • Ensure that all activities are carried out safely in accordance with HSE policies and procedures.
Skills & Competencies Required
  • Strong understanding of pipeline welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW).
  • Familiarity with API, ASME, and AWS codes applicable to pipeline welding.
  • Proficiency in interpreting isometric drawings and welding symbols.
  • In-depth knowledge of NDT inspection techniques and acceptance criteria.
  • Good report writing, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and under challenging site conditions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
