Job summary

OQ in Oman seeks an experienced Legal Counsel to provide independent legal advice on standard and moderately complex commercial, contractual and regulatory matters. The role involves drafting, negotiating agreements, conducting legal research, and supporting business stakeholders within established legal frameworks.

The successful candidate will align with the Group’s policies, standards and national objectives, liaising with external advisers and escalating significant risks as needed.

Qualifications

• LLB or equivalent from a reputable university with Bar admission.
• 6-8 years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal/compliance function.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on routine business, contractual, and operational matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate standard commercial agreements and legal documents.
• Conduct legal research and analyse regulatory requirements affecting business operations.
• Review contractual obligations and identify legal implications and risks.
• Support due diligence activities for projects and transactions.
• Assist in assessment and mitigation of legal risks.
• Prepare legal opinions, reports, and recommendations.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to address legal requirements.

Job purpose

Provide independent legal advice and support on standard and moderately complex commercial, contractual, regulatory and operational matters. Manage assigned legal matters, draft and negotiate agreements, identify legal risks, and support business stakeholders in achieving objectives within established legal frameworks and escalation protocols.

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and guidance on routine business, contractual, and operational matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate standard commercial agreements and legal documents.

Education requirements

• LLB or equivalent from a reputable university or law school with admission to a recognized civil or common law Bar (or equivalent body), in other words, qualified as a lawyer/solicitor/barrister.

Language

Excellent written and spoken English is a must.
