Job summary

WaveWorks in Salalah, Oman is seeking a Senior Librarian to lead the library team and oversee daily operations, collections, and customer service. You will implement literacy programs and engage the community.

The ideal candidate has at least a Bachelor's in Library Science (Master's preferred), 5+ years in libraries, strong organizational and communication skills, and readiness to work evenings or weekends. Fluency in English is required; Arabic is a plus.

Job description

We are hiring a Senior Librarian to lead our library team in Salalah Oman As a Senior Librarian you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the library managing the library collection and providing excellent customer service You will also be responsible for creating and implementing programs and events to promote literacy and engage the community

Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operations of the library including managing staff schedules and ensuring the library is properly maintained
• Manage the library collection by acquiring new materials organizing and cataloging materials and weeding out outdated or damaged items
• Provide excellent customer service by assisting patrons with research inquiries recommending resources and overseeing circulation services
• Create and implement programs and events to promote literacy and engage the community such as book clubs author visits or storytime sessions
• Develop partnerships with local schools and organizations to enhance library services and reach a wider audience
• Stay up-to-date on current trends in library services and technology to continuously improve our offerings
• Train and mentor junior librarians to develop their skills and knowledge in the field

Requirements

• Bachelors degree in Library Science or a related field Masters degree preferred
• Minimum of 5 years experience working in a library setting
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills with a friendly and helpful attitude towards patrons
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting
• Knowledge of current library technologies and systems
• Fluency in English Arabic language proficiency is an asset
• Comfortable working flexible hours including evenings and weekends

Salary This position offers a competitive salary of $1200 per month
