Job summary

Worley is seeking a Principal Process Engineer in Muscat to lead brownfield process design across brownfield projects, from FEED through start-up. The role emphasizes safety, engineering integrity and cross-functional collaboration with procurement and construction teams.

The ideal candidate brings 20+ years in oil & gas process design, strong leadership, and experience in multidisciplinary delivery within the Middle East. This is a full-time assignment based in Oman with HSSE accountability.

Qualifications

• Minimum 20 years in Brownfield Oil & Gas Process Design and Engineering.
• Experience leading process engineering within multidisciplinary project delivery teams.
• Strong knowledge of process design, simulation, heat & material balance, optimization and safety studies.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with engineering standards and statutory requirements across all POs and programmes.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and ensure designs meet current requirements.
• Provide technical direction and check/verify engineering deliverables.
• Lead safety hazard assessment across asset lifecycle and document decisions.
• Drive continuous improvement and standardization in project delivery.
• Interface with procurement, construction and other disciplines to manage interfaces.

Primary Objectives / Responsibilities

• Ensure company and statutory requirements, along with applicable engineering standards, are identified and addressed in process design across all Purchase Orders and Programmes.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant industry standards and ensure project designs comply with current requirements.
• Ensure the technical integrity of process engineering deliverables through checking, verification, and design review activities.
• Proactively understand the safety hazards and risks associated with the asset lifecycle of the designed product, plant, or process system.
• Ensure actions arising from Project Reviews and Value Improvement Practices (VIPs) are addressed in a timely manner.
• Design and develop innovative technical approaches to process engineering challenges and contribute to continuous business improvement initiatives.
• Communicate key design decisions with potential safety impacts to project teams and ensure they are appropriately documented.
• Drive continuous improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency of project delivery through elimination, simplification, standardization, and automation while maintaining high-quality engineering outcomes.

Specific Accountabilities

• Promote it within the team to support Zero Harm Behaviour.
• Plan the execution of process discipline activities to maintain project schedules.
• Manage quality and consistency within the discipline.
• Provide technical direction, control, and supervision for engineering and design activities.
• Resolve discipline-related technical issues.
• Prepare discipline man-hour estimates for proposals and develop deliverables lists.
• Deliver discipline design deliverables within approved man-hour budgets.
• Manage discipline resources in collaboration with the Project Engineering Manager.
• Identify software requirements and select appropriate design tools.
• Identify training and development needs of discipline personnel.
• Perform or delegate checking of deliverables.
• Report progress on deliverables and tasks and provide updates for project reporting.
• Identify and report potential project variances.
• Maintain and update lessons learned registers.
• Undertake or delegate site visits as required.Manage interfaces within the discipline, across other disciplines, and with third-party contractors.
• Interface with procurement and construction teams.
• Coordinate change control and technical query processes within the discipline.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Minimum 20 years of experience in Brownfield Oil & Gas Process Design and Engineering.
• Experience performing as a professional Process Engineer for projects and plant modifications from Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) through execution, commissioning, and start-up.
• Demonstrated experience in process design, process simulation, heat and material balance calculations, process optimization, and process safety engineering.
• Minimum 10-12 years of experience leading process engineering activities within multidisciplinary project delivery teams.
• Experience in the Middle East is an advantage.
• Experience in front-end engineering, project execution, commissioning, and start-up activities.
• Experience with project management.
• Experience managing EPCM projects.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent.
• Professional Engineering status or equivalent professional registration.
• Proven leadership skills and a strong personal drive to meet deadlines and targets.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to work and manage in a multicultural environment.
• Strong commitment to HSSE leadership and experience managing HSSE throughout all project phases.
• Experience in process design, process optimization, process safety studies, and engineering specification development.
