Job summary

PPOAR in Al Buraymi, Oman, is seeking a Library Assistant to support the Librarian with day-to-day operations at Al Buraymi Public Library. The role focuses on helping patrons, managing checkouts, shelving, and maintaining orderly spaces.

The position is full-time with accommodation and visa provided. A Bachelor's in Library Science is preferred but not required; strong communication, basic computer skills, and attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Library Science or related field preferred but not required.
• Strong communication skills and ability to assist a diverse group of patrons.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
• Knowledge of cataloging systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist patrons with locating and checking out books and other materials
• Handle circulation tasks including checking in and shelving returned items
• Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the library shelves and spaces
• Provide basic computer assistance to patrons with library computers
• Process new materials for circulation including cataloging, labeling, and covering books
• Assist with collection maintenance by identifying damaged or missing items
• Create and update displays to promote library resources and events
• Conduct basic reference interviews and refer patrons to the Librarian for more in-depth research needs
• Assist with inventory checks and ordering supplies as needed
• Attend training sessions to stay up-to-date on library policies, procedures, and resources
