Job summary

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children in Ōtepoti/Dunedin is seeking a Permanent, fulltime Youth Worker to support tamariki and rangatahi and their whānau. The role involves collaborative planning, case management and implementing non-social work components of the young person’s plan.

You will engage with whānau, attend meetings with professionals, assist in developing independence skills and budgeting, and support Family Group Conferences to ensure Care Standards and positive outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Familiar with Te Reo Māori and Tikanga
  • Full and clean driver's licence
  • Understanding of Oranga Tamariki as an organisation
  • Knowledge of tikanga Māori and Pacific cultures
  • Evidence of working with tamariki and whanau
  • Ideally a Youth Work or relevant qualification preferred but not mandatory

Responsibilities

  • Engaging with whānau and others involved in the tamariki and rangatahi's plan
  • Spending time with the tamariki, rangatahi and relating well to young people
  • Working with Social Workers to support Care Standards and outcomes
  • Attending meetings with tamariki, rangatahi and professionals from multiple agencies
  • Coordinating appointments for tamariki and rangatahi
  • Involving in activity-based and recreational programmes
  • Helping tamariki learn independence skills such as budgeting
  • Supporting tamariki at Family Group Conferences
  • Recording and administrative tasks to support the team
  • Attending visits to homes or with other whānau as needed

Permanent, fulltime Youth Worker position available! Role will be based at our Ōtepoti Site We're offering a competitive salary starting from $57,760 to $65,334, depending on experience

Mō te tūnga | About the role

At our site, we are working differently with our tamariki, rangatahi and their whānau. We are taking a collaborative team approach to decision making, planning and case management.

This position will see you involved in all aspects of supporting the team to implement the non-social work components of the young person's plan. The scope for development in this role is great and you will be a valued member of the team.

  • Engaging with whānau and other people involved in the tamariki and rangatahi's plan
  • Spending time with the tamariki, rangatahi and relating well to young people
  • Working alongside Social Workers to support the mahi of bringing to life the Care Standards and positive outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi
  • Attending meetings with the tamariki ,rangatahi and other professionals from a range of different agencies e.g. Police, Education, Health and the community
  • Making and coordinating appointments for tamariki and rangatahi
  • Involving in activity based and recreational programmes with our tamariki and rangatahi
  • Taking young people to appointments that do not require a social workers presence
  • Helping tamariki and rangatahi to learn independence skills such as shopping and budgeting
  • Supporting tamariki and rangatahi at Family Group Conferences
  • Recording and other administrative tasks to support the team
  • Supporting tamariki and rangatahi to attend visit e.g. with mental health and education services
  • May be required to attend visits to the home or with other whānau

Key requirements of the role include:

  • Familiar with Te Reo Māori and Tikanga

Annual remuneration for this position starts between $57,760 to $65,334 dependant on experience.
