Job summary

BGI Wellington is seeking a Youth Worker to join the Te Whare Taiohi team in central Wellington. You will mentor rangatahi, support learning and deliver practical activities in a safe, supportive environment.

You will work with teachers, whānau and community partners to re-engage young people with education and life skills. A youth work qualification or progress toward one is preferred, with a valid driver licence.

Qualifications

  • Understand youth development and wellbeing.
  • Experience with rangatahi from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to create safe, positive learning environments.
  • Demonstrated empathy, energy, reliability and initiative.
  • Creative planning for individuals and groups.
  • Strong teamwork with teachers, whānau and community.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with young people and partners.
  • Completed or progressing youth work qualification; drivers license preferred.
  • Full, clean driver licence

Responsibilities

  • Build positive relationships with rangatahi.
  • Provide group mentoring, pastoral support and learning help.
  • Plan and facilitate engaging activities and conversations.
  • Help create a positive group culture where youth thrive.
  • Collaborate with teachers, whānau, schools and community agencies.
  • Support action plans and pathways for rangatahi.
  • Maintain pastoral, programme, health and safety, and evaluation records.
  • Contribute to other BGI youth programmes as needed.
