Job summary

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children in Napier is seeking an administration-focused kaimahi to support Social Work staff. You will manage scheduling, data collection and general admin tasks, liaising with vendors, casual staff and stakeholders.

Based at our Napier site, you will handle reception duties, welcome newcomers and whānau, and assist on health and safety, IT and reporting needs, with a strong emphasis on clear communication and tikanga Māori awareness.

Qualifications

  • Full clean New Zealand driver’s licence required; historic convictions may be considered case-by-case.
  • Support the team with all Health and Safety aspects.
  • Strong computer and IT knowledge.
  • Admin skills: typing, reporting, responding to site needs.
  • Cultural awareness and Tikanga Māori understanding.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Strong time management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; adaptable to audience.
  • Understanding of cross-cultural practices; knowledge of Tikanga Māori and Pacific cultures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support for Social Work kaimahi, including scheduling and data collection.
  • Liaise with vendors, casual staff, and stakeholders.
  • Reception duties: booking rooms, answering phones.
  • Organise welcomes/whakatau for newcomers and whānau as required.
  • Deal with critical scenarios in a calm, professional manner.

Do you want to make a difference to New Zealand's tamariki, rangatahi, whānau and communities within the Napier region? Come and join our great, supportive, and fun team and grow your administration experience to new heights with our team as we provide statutory care and protection services.

  • Work with various cultural groups and people from different backgrounds
  • Booking rooms, answering phones, and assisting on the reception desk
  • Organising welcomes/whakatau for newcomers and whānau as and when required
  • Deal with critical scenarios in a calm, professional manner

Key requirements of the role include:

Oranga Tamariki offer a step based remuneration package, that offers progression annually for experience through tenure. Annual remuneration for this position starts between $57,096 and $62,773 dependant on experience.
