Job description

Help Shape the Future of Tourism Technology

At CustomLinc, we’re powering online bookings, ticketing, payments, and customer experiences for tourism and travel operators across New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific.

From wildlife parks and heritage railways to iconic visitor attractions and cruise operators, our software helps businesses deliver unforgettable customer experiences while running more efficiently behind the scenes.

We’re growing and looking for a talented Web Developer to join our Christchurch‑based team and help us evolve our platform for the next generation of customers.

Why CustomLinc?

This isn’t another role where you’ll spend months working on a tiny piece of a product – you’ll see your work go live quickly, solve real customer problems, and have a direct impact on the success of our clients.

You’ll also play an important role in one of our biggest initiatives: transforming our legacy desktop application into a modern web‑based platform. Rather than building on top of a standard frontend framework like React or Angular, we’ve built our own approach to serving and rendering pages.

What you’ll love
  • Real ownership and influence over technical decisions
  • Flexible working with remote‑friendly options
  • A close‑knit, collaborative team where your ideas are heard
  • Exposure across front‑end, back‑end, integrations, and platform development
  • Opportunities to grow your technical depth
  • A product used daily by businesses delivering amazing tourism experiences
What you’ll do

As a Web Developer, you’ll work across both modern web experiences and the underlying systems that power them.

You’ll:

  • Build and enhance customer‑facing booking widgets, portals, and web applications
  • Develop responsive, mobile‑friendly user experiences using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Troubleshoot and improve online booking and checkout journeys
  • Develop object‑oriented platform components within our proprietary framework
  • Integrate and support payment gateways and third‑party APIs
  • Implement and maintain analytics and conversion tracking solutions
  • Contribute to the development of our next‑generation browser‑based portal
  • Investigate and resolve complex issues in production environments
  • Review code, share knowledge, and work closely with the wider development team
What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone with excellent attention to detail, strong problem‑solving skills, and a natural curiosity for learning new technologies. You’ll be an effective communicator who can build positive working relationships with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, working collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes. Someone who embraces innovation, you will be confident using AI tools to enhance productivity, improve development practices, and deliver better software solutions.

We’re more interested in strong development fundamentals and learning agility than experience with a specific technology stack.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Strong experience with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript
  • Experience building responsive, user‑focused web applications
  • A solid understanding of client‑side versus server‑side application design
  • Experience with an object‑oriented programming language such as:
  • C#
  • Java
  • C++
  • Python
  • or similar
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience working with APIs and third‑party integrations
  • Confidence using browser developer tools and diagnosing live production issues

We’ll be especially interested if you have experience with:

  • Jade development
  • IIS administration and web hosting environments
  • Web application security
  • Google Tag Manager or GA4
  • Third‑party integrations
  • Tourism, travel, ticketing, or booking platforms
  • Modernisation projects involving legacy applications
Our Ideal Developer

You’ll thrive here if you enjoy:

  • Thinking beyond just writing code
  • Understanding how systems work end‑to‑end
  • Owning problems from investigation through to resolution
  • Working in a small, agile team where everyone contributes
  • Continuously improving your craft and learning new technologies
Location

We’re based in Christchurch Technology Park and would prefer someone who can spend time in the office, particularly during onboarding and relationship‑building.

After that, we offer flexibility, including primarily remote working arrangements. For an exceptional candidate, we would also consider a fully remote setup.
