Veolia Australia & New Zealand is seeking a practical Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Operator to join our operations team in Wanaka, NZ. You’ll help maintain and operate water and wastewater networks to ensure safe drinking water and proper wastewater collection and transport across the region.

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, you will work with a collaborative infrastructure team on planned, routine and reactive maintenance and contribute to high-quality service delivery and safety

Formación

• Experience with water mains and wastewater infrastructure preferred.
• Ability to work outdoors and hands-on with assets.
• Safety-focused approach and ability to follow procedures.

Responsabilidades

• Maintain water and wastewater reticulation infrastructure and assets.
• Perform planned, routine and breakdown maintenance.
• Identify, investigate and escalate faults promptly.
• Carry out repairs and fault-finding on assets and infrastructure.
• Operate excavators, small trucks or other plant as required.
• Collaborate with internal teams, contractors and temporary labour.
• Participate in on-call duty roster.
• Follow health, safety, environmental, quality and operational procedures.
• Complete required regulatory and role-specific training.
• Support delivery of reliable, compliant water and wastewater services.

What you'll be responsible for

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, you will work as part of a collaborative infrastructure team responsible for planned, routine and reactive maintenance across water and wastewater networks.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include

• Maintaining water and wastewater reticulation infrastructure and associated network assets.
• Completing planned, routine and breakdown maintenance.
• Identifying, investigating and escalating faults and operational issues promptly.
• Carrying out repairs and fault-finding on network assets and infrastructure.
• Operating excavators, small trucks and other plant and equipment as required.
• Working effectively with internal teams, contractors and temporary labour.
• Participating in the on-call duty operator roster.
• Following all health, safety, environmental, quality and operational procedures.
• Completing required regulatory and role-specific training.
• Supporting the delivery of reliable, compliant and high-quality water and wastewater services.

What you'll need to be successful

You will be a practical, safety-focused team player who can work effectively with limited supervision and respond positively to changing priorities.

We Are Looking For Someone With

• A combination of relevant education, training and industry experience.
• Experience working with water mains, ideally ranging from 25 mm to 550 mm.
• Experience with wastewater infrastructure, ideally ranging from 100 mm to 550 mm.
• Exposure to the water, wastewater, civil construction or infrastructure industries.
• Basic understanding of civil construction and heavy equipment operation.
• Experience operating excavators, small trucks or similar plant.
• Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
• Good computer literacy.
• Strong communication, literacy and numeracy skills.
• The ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, clients and contractors.
• Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors and undertake hands‑on duties.
• A current driver licence and relevant plant or equipment licences would be advantageous.
