Job summary

Sustainable HB - Centre for Climate and Resilience is seeking a Waste Minimisation Manager to drive our Rethinking Waste program across Hawke’s Bay. You’ll lead Waste Warriors, Rinsery event services, and community education initiatives with schools, groups, and businesses.

You’ll manage a team of casual staff and volunteers, collaborate with event organisers, council and funders, and ensure strong budgets, reporting and stakeholder engagement. Weekend and evening duties may apply.

Qualifications

• Experience recruiting, training and supporting staff or volunteers.
• Confidence running workshops and engaging with the community.
• Strong organisation and project management skills, including budgets and reporting.
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and te ao Māori.
• Full New Zealand driver licence.

Responsibilities

Join our team: Waste Minimisation Manager

Are you passionate about cutting waste and bringing people along for the journey? Sustainable HB is looking for a Waste Minimisation Manager to lead our Rethinking Waste work across Hawke’s Bay.

In this community-facing role, you’ll oversee our Waste Warriors and Rinsery event waste service, support the community recycling hub, and deliver waste education workshops for schools, community groups and businesses. You’ll also lead a team of casual staff and volunteers, and work closely with event organisers, council and funders.

Key details

• Hours: 40 hours per week, permanent
• Location: Hastings, Hawke’s Bay
• Reporting to: General Manager
• Start date: Mid-October if possible

What we’re looking for

• Experience recruiting, training and supporting staff or volunteers
• Confidence running workshops and engaging with the community
• Strong organisation and project management skills, including budgets and reporting
• An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and te ao Māori
• A full New Zealand driver licence

Some evening and weekend work is needed, especially during the summer events season. The successful applicant will need to pass a New Zealand Police vet.
