Job summary

KiwiRail is seeking a Train Attendant in Palmerston North to service the Capital Connection to Wellington. You will greet customers, deliver first-rate food and beverage service, assist with luggage, and perform cash handling in line with policies.

You should have hospitality and customer service experience, be fit to lift luggage, hold a full NZ Driver’s Licence, and communicate well. The role offers uniform, training, travel privileges, annual leave, and support networks.

Qualifications

  • Previous hospitality and customer service experience is ideal.
  • Good communication skills with people from all walks of life.
  • Be fit, active and capable of lifting heavy luggage.
  • Full NZ Driver’s Licence is required.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver first-rate food and beverage service on trains.
  • Perform cleaning duties and assist passengers as needed.
  • Handle luggage and assist with boarding and alighting.
  • Process cash handling and transactions in line with policies.

Great Journeys New Zealand (GJNZ) operate some of New Zealand’s most iconic Tourism and Interregional commuter services experiences - the Te Huia, Northern Explorer, TranzAlpine, Coastal Pacific and Capital Connections trains.

This is a Palmerston North based role servicing the Capital Connection from Palmerston North to Wellington.

As a Train Attendant, you will love to travel and ensure that all customers enjoy an outstanding experience while travelling on our services. You will welcome, connect with and greet customers in a courteous, professional, and willing manner. Your daily duties will involve delivering a first-rate food and beverage service, cleaning duties, luggage handling and carrying out all cash handling and transactions in line with policies and procedures as required.

You will need a full NZ Driver’s License.

  • No two days is the same.
  • Working in a team environment to achieve the common goal of exceptional customer experience, safety and wellbeing.
  • Multitask and problem solve on the fly.
  • At the end of your shift, that is where your working day ends.
  • Previous hospitality and customer service experience is ideal
  • A high standard of personal presentation and grooming
  • Great communication skills to connect and have conversations with people from all walks of life
  • Have good health, be fit, active and capable lifting heavy luggage
  • A positive, can-do attitude to happily go the extra mile for customers
  • Full NZ Driver’s License
