Auckland Council is seeking two on-site Lifeguards for Lloyd Elsmore Park Pool and Leisure Centre to ensure customers have a fantastic and safe experience through proactive supervision and water safety. You must be a strong swimmer, calm, and reliable, with excellent communication and customer service.

Training is provided, shifts include weekends, and a range of benefits includes access to centre facilities, Leisure Centre membership discounts, EAP services, and Oranga Day leave.

Our pool and leisure facilities are more popular than ever, and as a Lifeguard for our Lloyd Elsmore Park Pool and Leisure Centre, you will play a key part in ensuring that all customers not only have a fantastic experience but a safe one.

Lifeguards are observant, patient, and good with people. Their skill set means they have the confidence to act in a quick, responsible, and calm way.

We encourage individuals who are passionate about aquatics, customer service, and community recreation to apply and become part of the team at Lloyd Elsmore Pool.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Delivering exceptional customer service through proactive supervision and positive interactions with all facility users.
• Educating and enforcing pool rules and promoting water safety.
• Responding promptly and effectively to any emergencies and incidents.
• Ensuring our pools and the surrounding areas are always clean and safe.

We are recruiting for two on-site Permanent Part-Time positions (both 16 hour per week). As our centre opens 7 days a week, flexibility is essential.

You may be rostered to work early and late shifts, and increased availability during school/public holidays, and the summer period is highly desirable.

These roles also require you to work at least one weekend day.

Please note that you should also be available for a 2-week lifeguard training at West Wave.

You’ll have a passion for aquatics and enjoy sharing your knowledge and experience with customers and colleagues to improve water safety. You will be a natural role model, excellent communicator, and be committed to delivering exceptional aquatic programmes and services and providing a high level of customer satisfaction.

• are strong swimmers, calm, positive, proactive, and dedicated to helping others and their team
• have a high level of maturity, professionalism, and reliability
• have excellent communication, customer service, and relationship-building skills
• have cultural competence and a strong commitment to health and safety
• take ownership, show initiative, and are committed to delivering great outcomes

The first step in becoming a Lifeguard for Auckland Council is being able to pass this swim test. Please only apply for this position if you feel you can:

• Swim 50m breaststroke
• Retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool
• Tread water for 5 minutes

Salary rate: $28.95/hr. Please note, our employer KiwiSaver contribution is additional to the base salary offered.
