Registrar, Emergency Department
  • Located at Tauranga Hospital
  • Permanent Full‑time
  • Level 5 Hospital with a wide range of acute services.
  • Direct shop floor supervision from experienced Senior Medical Officers (SMOs).
  • Protected teaching time with active simulation programs.

About The Role

As an ED Registrar at Tauranga Hospital, you will have the opportunity to work in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity environment, seeing up to 50,000 patients per year. You will be exposed to a broad range of clinical cases, including paediatrics (20% of the patient load), and will work alongside a supportive team of Senior Medical Officers. The department offers 17 hours per day of direct shop floor supervision, ensuring you receive excellent support and guidance. This is an ideal opportunity for ACEM trainees looking to complete their regional or rural training or those seeking a broader experience outside of a major centre. You will be part of a team that is passionate about medical education, with four hours of protected teaching each week, including simulation and exam preparation for both Primary and Fellowship examinations. There are also clinical governance frameworks and research opportunities for interested trainees.

About the Team/Service/Location

The Emergency Department at Tauranga Hospital is a busy, vibrant service that sees a diverse and challenging case‑mix. With 15 SMOs, including 14 FACEMs, and a strong focus on education and staff development, you will be well‑supported in your clinical and professional growth.

As an ED Registrar, you will have a passion for Emergency Medicine, with a commitment to providing high‑quality care in a fast‑paced, challenging environment. You will have excellent communication and teamwork skills, and a strong desire to continue learning and growing within your medical career. The ideal candidate will be proactive, dedicated to providing excellent patient care, and keen to contribute to the education and development of junior staff.
