Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking a Health Care Assistant to support the Surgical 4th Floor teams across the Surgical Assessment Unit and Surgical Day Unit in Dunedin Hospital. The role requires teamwork, patient care under a registered nurse, and rostered shifts (including weekends) at 0.5 FTE.

The package includes a salary band of NZD 60,000–70,000 p.a pro rata plus Kiwisaver, with the opportunity to contribute to a busy surgical environment in Otago.

Qualifications

• Must hold working rights in New Zealand.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Able to follow directions from staff.
• Experience in healthcare settings is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and supervise patients and provide one-on-one assistance as needed.
• Restock and set up equipment for procedures and daily operations.
• Perform general department housekeeping and restocking tasks.
• Support nurses and other healthcare team members in daily tasks.
• Handle clerical duties and administrative support as required.
• Reconcile stock and maintain accurate records.
